Hyundai Turns Employee ID Card Into Award-Winning Tech Accessory With 2026 Red Dot Win

Hyundai Motor Company has added another trophy to its growing design cabinet — but this time, it’s not for a sleek SUV, futuristic EV or concept car. Instead, the Korean automaker has won the prestigious 2026 Red Dot Award for… an employee ID card case.

Yes, the humble office badge holder has officially entered the premium design era.

Hyundai Motor announced that its newly developed employee ID card case secured victory in the Product Design category at the 2026 Red Dot Award, one of the world’s top three global design competitions. The recognition underlines Hyundai’s expanding focus on user-centric innovation, proving the company’s designers are paying attention not just to what employees drive, but also to what hangs around their necks every day.

And honestly, after years of uninspiring plastic badge holders swinging awkwardly at workplaces worldwide, somebody had to do something.

The new Hyundai ID card case has been designed with modularity, flexibility and everyday convenience in mind. Its standout feature is MagSafe compatibility, allowing employees to magnetically attach the case directly onto compatible smartphones or accessories. The conventional neck strap can also be detached entirely, offering multiple carrying styles depending on user preference.

In typical Hyundai fashion, practicality meets personalization here. The ID case comes with a modular reel holder system and supports various accessories including ring-type holders, jacquard straps and bead straps, giving employees room to customize their office essential like it’s a smartphone accessory ecosystem.

Available in white and clear blue finishes, the case has been engineered to remain slim yet durable. Hyundai says replaceable modules reduce wear and tear while minimizing the need for complete replacements — a thoughtful sustainability touch hidden inside what most people would simply call “an office badge.”

Interestingly, this isn’t the first recognition for the product either. The ID card case was also honored earlier with an iF Design Award, making it one of the rare workplace accessories collecting design awards like a luxury automobile.

The Red Dot Award jury recognized the product for transforming a mundane corporate necessity into a smarter and more adaptable everyday object. It’s another example of Hyundai extending its design philosophy far beyond vehicles and into broader lifestyle experiences.

At this rate, don’t be surprised if Hyundai’s coffee mug wins an international design award next year.
