Tesla Starts Model Y L Deliveries in India, Expands EV Line-Up With Six-Seater SUV

New Delhi: Tesla India has commenced deliveries of the newly launched Model Y L, a three-row, six-seater electric SUV priced from ₹61,99,000, marking the company’s latest expansion in India’s premium electric vehicle market.

The first batch of Model Y L units has been delivered to customers through Tesla’s direct-to-consumer business model, under which the company manages customer engagement and vehicle deliveries directly.

The Model Y L is positioned as a more spacious and versatile version of the Model Y family. It offers a WLTP-certified range of up to 681 km, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds and provides cargo space of up to 2,539 litres. In simpler terms, it is built for families that travel with children, luggage and, occasionally, enough snacks to survive a small expedition.

Tesla has also introduced a finance programme for the Model Y L, with monthly payments starting at ₹49,990 and a down payment as low as ₹6,50,000. The programme is aimed at reducing the upfront cost of ownership for customers considering a premium electric vehicle.

Alongside the six-seater Model Y L, Tesla recently launched the 2026 Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive in India. The five-seater variant is priced at ₹50,89,000, with deliveries scheduled to begin in July 2026.

The Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive offers 2,138 litres of storage space and a WLTP range of up to 500 km. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Tesla has described the Model Y as the world’s best-selling EV as of March 2026.

For the Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive, Tesla is offering monthly EMI options starting at ₹39,990, with a down payment of ₹6,00,000. The financing push indicates Tesla’s effort to make its India portfolio more accessible within the premium EV segment, though the pricing still keeps it firmly in luxury territory.

Tesla said both the Model Y L and Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive have received top safety ratings from several global safety organisations, including NHTSA and IIHS in America, Euro NCAP in Europe, ANCAP in Australia and New Zealand, and C-IASI in China.

The company also highlighted the lower maintenance requirements of its vehicles, supported by Over-The-Air updates and remote diagnostics. Tesla currently operates service centres and body shops in Mumbai, Gurugram, Delhi and Pune, and plans to expand its service network this quarter to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Ahmedabad.

The start of Model Y L deliveries adds another high-profile nameplate to India’s fast-growing premium EV space. With more variants, financing options and service touchpoints coming into play, Tesla’s India strategy now appears to be moving from launch excitement to the more demanding business of everyday ownership.
