Mumbai – Tata Motors, India’s leading automobile manufacturer, reported total sales of 79,344 units in February 2025, reflecting a moderate decline from the 86,406 units recorded in the same period last year. The dip in sales, attributed to evolving market dynamics, affected both commercial and passenger vehicle segments.
Commercial Vehicle Sales: Marginal Drop in Demand
Tata Motors’ Commercial Vehicle (CV) segment registered total sales of 32,533 units, marking a 7% year-on-year (YoY) decline compared to February 2024.
- Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (MH&ICV) domestic sales, including trucks and buses, stood at 15,940 units, slightly lower than 16,227 units in February 2024.
- Despite the domestic slowdown, total MH&ICV sales, including exports, increased slightly to 16,693 units, up from 16,663 units last year.
Passenger Vehicle Sales: 9% Decline Amid Market Shifts
The Passenger Vehicle (PV) segment recorded total sales of 46,811 units, witnessing a 9% YoY drop from February 2024. The decline is speculated to be influenced by evolving consumer preferences, supply chain constraints, and intensifying competition in the Indian automotive market.
Industry Outlook & Future Prospects
Despite the YoY decline, Tata Motors remains focused on innovation and sustainability, with increasing emphasis on electric and hybrid vehicles to drive future growth. Industry experts anticipate a market rebound in the coming months, supported by new model launches and improving economic conditions.
As Tata Motors adapts to changing industry trends, the company is expected to introduce strategic measures to strengthen its position and regain momentum in the competitive Indian automobile market.
