In response to alarming tweets highlighting significant damage on the Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor, specifically at Km. 39 of the Sangaria-Rasisar section, authorities have launched a thorough investigation. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways directed an inquiry into the situation, leading to decisive action against those responsible.
The contractor has faced a hefty penalty of ₹50 lakh for failing to address the defects in a timely manner. Furthermore, the Acting Team Leader and the Resident Engineer of the Authority Engineer have been terminated due to inadequate supervision and service lapses. The Site Engineer involved has also lost their position.
In addition to these actions, the Project Director and the Deputy Manager (Technical) have received Show Cause Notices for their role in the oversight.
While heavy rainfall in the region has complicated maintenance efforts, temporary measures have been implemented at the affected location to ensure safe traffic flow. Photos documenting the rectification efforts have been made available.
Looking ahead, permanent repairs will commence as soon as weather conditions allow. To prevent future issues, the Ministry has engaged Domain Expert Prof. K.S. Reddy from IIT Kharagpur to investigate the underlying causes of the distress and recommend effective remedial strategies for the affected stretches of the expressway.
