Revolutionary Electric Vehicle Technology for Agriculture Receives Boost from Technology Development Board

New Delhi, May 27, 2024 – In a groundbreaking move, the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) has announced financial assistance to M/s Krishigati Pvt. Ltd., Pune, for their pioneering work in electric vehicle (EV) technology for intercultural farming operations.

The project, titled “Axle-Less Multipurpose Electric Vehicle for Modern and Precision Farming,” represents a significant step towards indigenizing EV technology for agricultural use. TDB’s financial support underscores the project’s potential to revolutionize the agricultural sector by introducing advanced technological solutions.

At the heart of this initiative is India’s first “Self-Propelled Electric Agricultural Tool Bar” (Krishigati Electric Bull). This innovative, IP-based solution is designed for climate-resilient farm mechanization and aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare’s goals to double the income and productivity of marginal farmers.

The Krishigati project aims to manufacture and market these advanced agricultural tools, addressing a critical market need. Currently, no other company is producing an axle-less multipurpose electric vehicle for agricultural purposes, highlighting the significant economic potential and market demand for such technology.

Key features of the developed product include:

  • An electric prime mover that operates without pollution or vibrations.
  • A 610 mm ground clearance.
  • The versatility to perform four different farming operations with a single tool.
  • A portable battery that can be charged anywhere using a single-phase electric power supply.
  • User-friendly operation by both men and women with minimal training.
  • Comprehensive safety features that comply with regulatory mandates.

Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary of TDB, remarked, “We are dedicated to enhancing indigenous capabilities and supporting innovative projects that propel technological advancement and economic growth in India’s agricultural sector.”

This strategic support from TDB is poised to drive technological advancements in agriculture, fostering sustainable and efficient farming practices across India.
