Tata Winger 2022 Review: A Versatile and Robust Companion for Diverse Indian Roads

The Tata Winger, since its launch in 2007, has evolved significantly, with the 2022 model showcasing its second generation. This Indian van, solely available in a diesel variant, spans a price range from ex-showroom 13.42 lakh for the base model to 27.52 lakh for the top model. The 15-seater variant, specifically priced at 19 lakh, highlights Tata’s aim to cater to a wide range of seating needs, offering 9, 12, 13, 15, 18, and 21-seater configurations. This flexibility extends to its purpose as well, with school, cargo, and ambulance variants available, designed for higher profits, better performance, comfort, convenience, style, and value.

The Winger is built on a monocoque chassis and follows the “Premium Tough” design philosophy, a testament to Tata’s focus on durability and a smooth driving experience. The van is based on the 2001 Renault Trafic, indicating a blend of international design and local ingenuity. Its features, like the fog lamps, chrome grill, DRLs, and a 16-litre DEF tank, enhance its appeal and functionality. The van’s dimensions and weight suggest it is designed to handle substantial loads while maintaining a reasonable maneuverability in urban and rural settings.

For the wheels and tires, it sports 15-inch steel wheels, with disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear, complemented by 195 R15 C 107/105S 8PR Apollo Altrus radial tubeless tyres, indicating a balanced approach to safety and durability. The choice of colors, including Pearl White, blue, and Arctic White, along with features like the LED tail lamp, underline Tata’s attention to style alongside functionality.

Suspension and braking systems are robust, featuring coil spring with McPherson strut at the front and Parabolic Leaf Spring at the rear, supplemented by Double Acting Hydraulic Telescopic Shock Absorbers, tailored for the challenging Indian roads. The inclusion of a single plate diaphragm type 215 mm clutch with semi-hydraulic actuation points towards a focus on durability and ease of maintenance.

From a technological standpoint, the Winger incorporates Eco drive mode for better fuel efficiency and connected technology offerings like Telematics and Fleet Management Solutions for comprehensive vehicle tracking and management. Safety features like ABS 9.1, hydraulic brake, hill hold, and anti-roll bar ensure passenger and driver safety, aligning with the increasing demands for safer public and commercial transportation options.

The interior amenities, such as fabric upholstery, push-back seats, individual AC vents, deluxe seats, and an internal roof height of 1.9 meters, emphasize passenger comfort and convenience, making long journeys more enjoyable. The presence of safety measures like a glass-breaking hammer and a 3-way adjustable driver seat further highlights Tata’s commitment to safety and ergonomics.

Under the hood, the Tata Winger is powered by a 2179 cc, inline 4 cylinder, BS6 phase 2, Tata Varicor 11 diesel engine, delivering 100 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. The balance between power and fuel efficiency, with an approximate mileage of 10 kmpl and a 60-litre fuel tank, positions the Winger as a competitive player in the Indian commercial vehicle market.

In summary, the Tata Winger stands out for its versatility, robust design, and comprehensive features tailored for a range of commercial uses. With its durable construction, emphasis on passenger comfort, and advanced safety and technology integrations, the Winger is a noteworthy option for businesses and organizations looking for a reliable, multi-purpose transport solution.
