Kia’s Electric Marvel Brings the Sun Back to Norway: EV9 Powers a Gargantuan LED Sunrise

In a dazzling display of electric prowess, Kia’s latest EV9 is not just a vehicle, but a beacon of light in Norway’s winter darkness. Partnering with VOID, the experiential design studio, and creative agency Innocean, Kia has mounted a colossal five-metre LED disc, emulating the sun’s warmth and glow, all powered by their groundbreaking EV9.

This luminous spectacle in Rampton, a scenic campground near Oslo, is more than just a beautiful installation. It’s a testament to the EV9’s Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, which can power hefty appliances, including this make-believe sun. David Hilbert, Kia Europe’s Head of Marketing, explains, “The EV9 is more than mobility; it’s a power station on wheels. With features like bidirectional charging, it extends the role of electric vehicles in our lives.”

The ‘temporary sun’ installation is not just for show. It’s a poignant reminder of the significance of sunlight, especially in areas like Norway, where winter days are short. The lack of sunlight can affect mental health, energy levels, and sleep patterns. By illuminating the Norwegian shoreline with this artificial sunrise, Kia demonstrates the versatility and power of the EV9’s battery, which can hold a whopping 99.8kWh of energy.

The EV9’s journey from Oslo to Rampton, powering the LED sun for 24 hours, and returning without a hitch, showcases the vehicle’s range and reliability. Kia also takes a leap into sustainable power usage with its Smart Charge technology, facilitating bidirectional charging. This innovation allows energy to flow both into and out of the vehicle, enabling it to power homes, grids, and even other vehicles.

Gabriel Mattar, COO of Innocean, highlights the fusion of technology and art in this project, “We’re blending state-of-the-art tech with artistic creativity to not only embody Kia’s brand spirit but also tackle real-world challenges.”

The EV9, already an award-winning SUV, leads the pack with its stylish design, advanced technologies, and impressive electric performance. With the capability of charging up to 155 miles in just 15 minutes, it stands as a formidable competitor in the electric SUV category. This Norwegian light show is a shining example of how the EV9 is more than just a vehicle; it’s a versatile, powerful, and innovative companion in the world of electric mobility.
