Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated 35 air-conditioned electric buses manufactured by Olectra Greentech Limited in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on November 1, marking another step in the city’s transition towards cleaner public transportation. The new fleet is intended to strengthen urban connectivity, improve passenger comfort and reduce tailpipe emissions from public transport.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Divisional Sports Complex in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The buses have been introduced as part of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation’s efforts to modernise its public transport infrastructure and expand environmentally sustainable mobility options.
Operated by Evey Trans, the 35 electric buses were scheduled to begin passenger services on November 2, 2026, across multiple routes in the city. Their introduction is expected to improve everyday commuting while reducing dependence on conventional diesel-powered public transport.
Nine-Metre Electric Buses Equipped With Blade Battery Technology
The newly introduced Olectra electric buses measure nine metres in length and use blade battery technology. Their monocoque construction is designed to provide structural rigidity, while front and rear air suspension systems aim to deliver a smoother ride on urban roads.
Safety equipment includes an Antilock Braking System (ABS), front and rear disc brakes and regenerative braking technology. The latter recovers energy during deceleration, improving energy efficiency and helping reduce wear on conventional braking components.
Passenger convenience has also received attention. The air-conditioned buses feature air curtains at both passenger doors, CCTV surveillance cameras, digital destination display boards and an integrated passenger announcement system.
Additional equipment includes a vehicle location tracking system, USB charging ports and a digital instrument cluster. Together, these features are intended to make daily journeys more convenient, particularly for commuters who depend on public transport for work, education and other routine travel.
Olectra Reports 4,500 Electric Buses Operating Across India
The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar deployment adds to Olectra Greentech’s expanding electric bus operations across India.
According to the company, more than 4,500 Olectra electric buses are operating in over 55 Indian cities, collectively covering more than 750 million kilometres.
Commenting on the development, Mahesh Babu, Managing Director of Olectra Greentech Limited, said:
“India is making remarkable progress in its transition towards cleaner and more sustainable public transportation. The introduction of 35 Olectra electric buses in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is another important step in making clean, reliable and efficient mobility a reality for more people.”
He also emphasised that the success of electric public transport should be measured by its impact on commuters and the environment, rather than simply by the number of vehicles deployed.
The company thanked the Government of Maharashtra and the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation for their support in expanding electric public transportation.
Cleaner, Quieter Public Transport for Maharashtra
Unlike conventional diesel buses, battery-electric buses produce zero tailpipe emissions during operation. Their relatively quiet electric drivetrains can also reduce traffic noise, particularly in densely populated urban areas.
However, the broader environmental benefits of electric transport depend on factors including electricity generation, vehicle utilisation and the efficiency of charging infrastructure.
For Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the addition of 35 electric buses represents an opportunity to improve public transport while addressing urban pollution and reliance on fossil fuels.
The deployment also reinforces Maharashtra’s growing adoption of electric mobility in public transportation, as municipalities increasingly explore alternatives to conventional internal combustion engine vehicles.
Ultimately, the success of the new fleet will be determined less by the inauguration ceremony and more by what happens at everyday bus stops: reliable schedules, accessible routes, affordable journeys and consistent service.
As Indian cities work towards cleaner and more efficient mobility networks, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’s latest electric bus deployment illustrates how the transition to sustainable transportation is gradually becoming part of daily urban life, one bus journey at a time.
