Kia India August 2026 Wholesales Jump 48.1% to Record 29,042 Units

NEW DELHI: Kia India recorded its highest-ever August wholesale volume in 2026, dispatching 29,042 vehicles during the month, up 48.1% from 19,608 units in August 2025, as demand for the Seltos and Sonet continued alongside contributions from newer models and electric vehicles.

The August performance marked the automaker’s best wholesale result for the month since it began operations in India.

Kia India’s cumulative wholesales between January and August 2026 reached 220,991 units, compared with 183,882 units during the corresponding period last year. That represents year-on-year growth of more than 20.1%.

The figures refer to wholesale dispatches from the manufacturer rather than direct retail registrations to customers, an important distinction when assessing monthly vehicle sales trends.

Seltos and Sonet Remain Key Volume Drivers

Kia said the Seltos and Sonet continued to account for a significant share of its volumes in India.

According to the company, the Seltos has been averaging more than 10,000 units a month since its launch in January, while the Sonet continues to support volumes in the sub-compact SUV segment.

The two SUVs remain central to Kia’s mass-premium strategy in India, where buyers continue to show a strong appetite for feature-rich utility vehicles. In other words, the SUV enthusiasm appears to have misplaced neither its keys nor its momentum.

Demand for the Carens Clavis and Clavis EV also contributed to the company’s performance during the year.

Kia Sees Early Response to Syros EV

Kia India said its recently launched Syros EV has received an encouraging response from customers as the automaker expands its electric vehicle portfolio.

The company is attempting to address some of the major concerns surrounding EV ownership through programmes including Assured Buyback, Battery-as-a-Service, or BaaS, and a Lifetime High Voltage Battery Warranty.

These initiatives are aimed at reducing uncertainty around purchase price, long-term battery ownership and resale value — factors that remain important considerations for customers evaluating a switch from internal-combustion vehicles to electric models.

Commenting on the performance, Atul Sood, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Kia India, said:

“Our strong performance in August reflects the continued trust of our customers and the relevance of our evolving product portfolio. While the Seltos and Sonet continue to drive sustained demand, the encouraging contribution from the newly launched Syros EV signals growing customer acceptance of electric mobility. Through one of the industry’s strongest ownership propositions comprising Assured Buyback, Battery-as-a-Service and Lifetime Battery Warranty and our expanding EV ecosystem, we are addressing key ownership considerations and making the transition to electric mobility more accessible and reassuring. As customer expectations evolve, we remain committed to delivering future-ready mobility solutions that offer meaningful value, greater choice and a differentiated ownership experience. The upcoming launch of the Sorento will further advance this strategy and strengthen Kia’s premium mobility proposition in India.”

Kia Sorento India Launch on September 4

Kia is now preparing to expand its Indian portfolio further with the launch of the Sorento on September 4, 2026.

The Sorento, one of Kia’s established global SUV nameplates, will become the company’s first hybrid SUV in India. It will also be offered with a diesel powertrain.

Its arrival will take Kia into a more premium three-row SUV category, broadening the company’s range beyond its existing compact, midsize and family-oriented offerings.

The move is also significant as automakers in India increasingly explore multiple electrification routes rather than relying solely on battery-electric vehicles. Hybrid powertrains are emerging as another option for buyers seeking lower fuel consumption without depending entirely on charging infrastructure.

Network Expands to 910 Touchpoints

Kia India currently operates 910 customer touchpoints across 418 cities, covering sales, service and ownership support in major cities as well as emerging markets.

The company also has 137 Certified Pre-Owned outlets, extending its presence in the used-car business through vehicle exchanges, resale services and payment facilities.

With wholesales up sharply in August and year-to-date volumes crossing 2.20 lakh units, Kia enters the final months of 2026 with its core SUV range still providing the bulk of its momentum. The upcoming Sorento and expanding electric portfolio will now test whether the company can translate that strength into sustained growth across both conventional and electrified segments of India’s increasingly crowded passenger-vehicle market.
