Bugatti and KPM Reunite for One-of-One W16 Mistral ‘Blanc Éternel’

Bugatti has unveiled the W16 Mistral ‘Blanc Éternel’, a one-of-one roadster created through its Sur Mesure personalisation programme in collaboration with Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin, or KPM. The bespoke model combines Bugatti’s final roadgoing W16 expression with hand-applied artwork, porcelain detailing and a design language inspired by the brand’s fully digital development process.

The ‘Blanc Éternel’ marks a renewed collaboration between Bugatti and KPM, 15 years after the two companies created the Veyron Grand Sport ‘L’Or Blanc’, a porcelain-inspired model that became one of the earliest showcases of Bugatti’s highly individualised approach to automotive design.

The new commission does not simply recreate that earlier car. Instead, Bugatti has used the W16 Mistral as a canvas to reinterpret the idea for the digital era, giving the roadster a graphic treatment based on the invisible surface structure used in modern vehicle design.

The W16 Mistral was developed entirely through digital modelling, without the use of traditional clay models. Its sculptural surfaces were created using NURBS, or Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines, a network of precisely controlled digital forms. For ‘Blanc Éternel’, Bugatti turned that hidden digital architecture into visible exterior artwork.

Fine black lines flow across the pure white bodywork, mapping the digital surface layout beneath the car’s form. The contrast is stark, technical and elegant — a little like seeing the blueprint of a hypercar, except the blueprint happens to be painted on a very expensive, very fast roadster.

The design also serves as a symbolic bookend to Bugatti’s W16 story. The Veyron established the W16 engine as one of the defining engineering statements of modern hypercars, while the W16 Mistral represents its final roadgoing expression.

Despite its digital inspiration, the ‘Blanc Éternel’ remains deeply handcrafted. Bugatti says the body is first finished in pure white before being carefully sanded and prepared. Each black line is then positioned by hand using tape, followed by counter-masking, removal of the original tape sections and black paint application through the exposed channels.

The process requires patience, precision and an understanding of how each line should travel across the car’s three-dimensional body. The result highlights the Mistral’s major design elements, including its reimagined horseshoe grille, sculpted front profile, rising C-line, dramatic air intakes and X-shaped taillight signature.

Porcelain details from KPM are integrated across the exterior, including the EB emblem, fuel and oil caps, and two engine-cover inlays featuring KPM Berlin’s royal scepter logo.

Creating such elements is a highly technical process. Porcelain contracts during kiln firing, with its dimensions after curing differing 17% from the original unfired component. Bugatti and KPM therefore had to account for that shrinkage during modelling and development to ensure each finished part would fit precisely.

Inside, the exterior’s linework continues across white leather. Bugatti developed a new process for applying the black graphic pattern directly to the leather while maintaining definition and durability. The individual leather sections are prepared, masked by hand and painted to mirror the exterior’s contrast.

Porcelain is also used inside the cockpit on functional touchpoints, including the speaker cover plate, two kneepad inlays, gear-shifter shells, centre-console armrest inlay and window-lifter buttons. Bugatti says the aim was to make porcelain not just decorative, but a material the occupants physically interact with.

“The W16 Mistral ‘Blanc Éternel’ is exceptionally beautiful because every line and every material has a purpose. Our ambition for this unique commission saw us dive deeply into the essence of the Veyron Grand Sport ‘L’Or Blanc’, and write its next chapter through the entirely digital design language of the W16 Mistral. Bringing the car to life required an intricate collaboration between our Bugatti design team in Berlin and the experts and leadership at KPM. ‘Blanc Éternel’ respects Bugatti’s history without being constrained by it, fusing our heritage with individual taste in a way that feels wholly new. That is the beauty of Sur Mesure, in creating something authentic and timeless that could belong to no one else,” said Frank Heyl, Bugatti Design Director.

Thomas Wenzel, Creative Director of KPM, said the project presented a rare technical and artistic challenge.

“The combination of delicate porcelain and uncompromising hypercar performance once again proved to be an extraordinary creative challenge. With the utmost care and precision, the bodywork accents and decorative elements of the ‘Blanc Éternel’ were meticulously crafted. Refining such a sensitive material for use in a vehicle of this performance class represents a remarkable achievement in craftsmanship,” Wenzel said.

To mark the renewed partnership, KPM and Bugatti have also created a limited-edition ‘Blanc Éternel’ porcelain collection inspired by the unique W16 Mistral. The collection includes the To-Drive Cup and KPM’s Aviator Cup in two sizes, and is limited to 1,000 handmade pieces.

“I am proud and excited that, after 15 years, this collaboration has once again brought together two of my greatest passions: porcelain and automobiles. KPM and Bugatti represent the perfect fusion of master craftsmanship and engineering excellence. Two exceptional maisons, connected by a shared pursuit of perfection, brought to life in an extraordinary automotive work of art,” said Jörg Woltmann, Owner of KPM.

Hendrik Malinowski, Managing Director of Bugatti, said the project reflects both heritage and modern interpretation.

“With this renewed partnership between Bugatti and KPM, and one of the final expressions of our legendary W16 era that it has yielded, we pay tribute to an intricate and emotional chapter in Bugatti’s modern history. Only now, we interpret that tale through an entirely new design language. ‘Blanc Éternel’ and the accompanying porcelain artworks demonstrate that true luxury is the opportunity to create something deeply meaningful – deeply precious, rooted in heritage and realized without compromise. It is a singular achievement that reflects the identity and the enduring spirit of both KPM Berlin and Bugatti,” Malinowski said.

The W16 Mistral ‘Blanc Éternel’ stands as both a farewell and a bridge: a celebration of the W16 engine’s legacy, the evolution of Bugatti’s design process and the enduring appeal of craftsmanship in an age when even hypercars begin their lives on a digital screen.
