Tata Motors Rolls Out All-New Intra V40, Packs CNG-Petrol Power With 1.5-Tonne Payload Punch

Mumbai: Tata Motors has added more muscle to its small commercial vehicle portfolio with the launch of the all-new Intra V40, a CNG + petrol bi-fuel pickup designed for operators who want higher payload capacity, longer range and lower running costs—basically, a workhorse that prefers earning money over sipping fuel like it is on vacation.

The new Intra V40 strengthens Tata Motors’ alternate fuel play in India’s small commercial vehicle and pickup segment. It comes with a best-in-class payload capacity of 1,525 kg and a 2,960 mm, or 9.7 ft, long load body, making it suitable for last-mile and intercity cargo applications where every extra kilogram can translate into better business returns.

Powering the Intra V40 is a 1.2-litre engine producing 58 bhp and 106 Nm of torque. The pickup uses CNG + petrol bi-fuel technology, giving operators the flexibility to switch between fuel types depending on availability and route requirements. Its 110-litre CNG tank has been designed to support longer running range, helping reduce refuelling stops and improving operational efficiency.

The vehicle is built on Tata Motors’ proven platform and features a modern walk-through cabin, car-like driving dynamics, and front disc brakes for better control and safety. Tata Motors says the Intra V40 also uses a hydroformed chassis, which helps improve strength, stability and refinement—important qualities when the vehicle spends most of its life carrying heavy loads rather than posing for Instagram reels.

Commenting on the launch, Mr. Pinaki Haldar, Vice President & Business Head – SCVPU, Tata Motors Ltd., said, “The shift towards alternate fuels in last-mile cargo transport is accelerating, driven by the need for lower operating costs and greater flexibility. Tata Motors is at the forefront of this transition, with a clear focus on building the strongest and most comprehensive alternate fuel portfolio in the small CV and pickup segment. With the all-new Intra V40, we further strengthen our bi-fuel range and consolidate our leadership in alternate fuel mobility, while our expanding electric portfolio supports a calibrated transition towards greener last-mile transportation.”

With the launch of the Intra V40, Tata Motors now offers what it calls India’s widest bi-fuel portfolio in the segment. This includes the Ace Pro Bi-fuel, Ace CNG 2.0, Intra V20 Gold, and now the Intra V40, covering multiple payload categories. The company is also expanding its electric small commercial vehicle line-up with products such as the Ace Pro EV, Ace EV 1000, and Intra EV Pickup.

Together, Tata Motors’ bi-fuel and electric range gives customers more options across fuel types, payload requirements and operating conditions. In simple terms, whether a fleet operator wants CNG savings today or electric mobility tomorrow, Tata wants to have a vehicle ready before the competition can say “last-mile logistics.”

The Intra V40 will also be supported by Tata Motors’ ownership ecosystem, including Sampoorna Seva 2.0, which offers end-to-end lifecycle support, and Fleet Edge telematics, which provides real-time vehicle insights, predictive maintenance and uptime optimisation.

For small business owners and fleet operators, the new Intra V40 is positioned as a practical and efficient cargo partner with higher payload capability, flexible fuel options and lower operating costs. For Tata Motors, it is another strong step in strengthening its alternate fuel leadership in India’s highly competitive small commercial vehicle market.
