Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Hits 71,066 Sales in January 2026, Registers Strong 47% Growth

Mumbai: India’s passenger vehicle market started 2026 on a high note, with Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. reporting total sales of 71,066 units in January 2026 across domestic and international markets. This marks a sharp jump from 48,316 units in January 2025, translating into an impressive 47% year-on-year growth.

In simple terms, nearly 23,000 more Tata cars found new homes this January compared to last year — which means Tata dealerships were probably busier than a highway toll booth on a long weekend.

Part of the USD 180 billion Tata Group, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles continues to strengthen its position as one of India’s leading carmakers, backed by a portfolio that spans hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs, along with a rapidly expanding electric vehicle lineup. The brand’s growth reflects rising consumer preference for vehicles that combine design, safety, performance and technology, while still being grounded in Indian road realities (read: potholes, traffic, and heroic suspension systems).

The company currently offers multiple powertrain choices including petrol, diesel, CNG and electric, supported by advanced connected car technologies and intelligent mobility solutions. It also remains at the forefront of India’s EV push, playing a key role in accelerating the country’s transition toward zero-emission mobility.

From a strategic standpoint, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles continues to invest heavily in R&D, design innovation and future-ready platforms, aligning itself with emerging trends such as connected vehicles, software-driven features and sustainable mobility.

Interestingly, this is also the first full sales cycle after the company’s official rebranding. As per a Composite Scheme of Arrangement sanctioned by the Hon’ble National Company Law Tribunal, Mumbai Bench, the company was renamed from Tata Motors Limited to Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited with effect from October 13, 2025. And judging by the January numbers, the new name seems to be bringing some extra horsepower with it.

With such a strong start to 2026, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has clearly put the year in “Sport mode” — and if this momentum continues, competitors might soon need more than just new models; they may need a crystal ball.
