Phantom Dragon Unveiled: Rolls-Royce Blends Ancient Chinese Legend with Modern Luxury

Goodwood, UK – Rolls-Royce Motor Cars has unveiled its latest masterpiece, the Phantom Dragon, a one-of-one creation celebrating the Year of the Dragon and the enduring virtues of kindness and generosity. This bespoke Phantom Extended, commissioned by a visionary client in China, reimagines an ancient legend of two dragons and a divine pearl, blending millennia of cultural symbolism with modern luxury.

Cultural Tribute Meets Masterful Craftsmanship
The Phantom Dragon’s design pays homage to the Chinese legend of dragons as protectors of humanity. These mythical beings, in an act of humility and generosity, chose to share their divine gift of a pearl, symbolizing harmony and enlightenment. Rolls-Royce’s artisans skillfully translated this tale into tangible artistry, epitomizing the spirit of grace and refinement.

At the heart of the Phantom Dragon is the Gallery, a breathtaking marquetry crafted from 297 individual wooden pieces. Representing two dragons encircling a pearl within swirling clouds, the design is a testament to Rolls-Royce’s expertise in intricate woodwork and the art of storytelling. The Bespoke clock, nestled within the composition, embodies the legendary pearl, uniting form and function in a single narrative.

Dragon Motifs Take Flight
The celestial drama continues with a bespoke Starlight Headliner, illuminating the cabin with 1,344 fiber-optic lights in red and white. This stunning constellation abstractly depicts two dragons intertwined, accompanied by shooting stars that evoke the heavens. The attention to detail extends to the Serenity Seats, adorned with luxurious Ardent Red and black leather, with the client’s family name elegantly embroidered in traditional Chinese calligraphy.

The exterior complements this exquisite interior with a striking Iced Diamond Black finish, creating a shimmering satin effect that contrasts with the car’s dynamic presence.

The Shanghai Connection
This exceptional commission underscores the importance of Rolls-Royce’s Private Office in Shanghai, a hub that bridges the brand’s British heritage with the tastes and traditions of its East Asian clientele.

“Phantom Dragon captures the harmonious fusion of Chinese symbolism and Rolls-Royce’s craftsmanship. It stands as an embodiment of artistry, respect, and our deep understanding of this crucial market,” said Martina Starke, Head of Bespoke Design at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

A Year of Celebrations
As 2025 marks the centenary of the Phantom, this commission also heralds a new chapter for the marque. The Phantom Dragon is more than a luxury automobile—it is a moving tribute to the rich cultural tapestry of China and a beacon of timeless values that transcend borders.

In crafting the Phantom Dragon, Rolls-Royce has once again proven that its bespoke creations are more than mere vehicles—they are cultural icons, capturing the essence of human stories in unparalleled luxury.
