Gurugram – Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) celebrated a significant milestone with the first anniversary of its ‘Samarth by Hyundai’ initiative, a comprehensive program designed to support people with disabilities in India. Launched in 2023, the initiative aligns with Hyundai’s global vision of “Progress for Humanity” and is dedicated to creating a more inclusive and accessible society for all.
The event was graced by several prominent dignitaries, including Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Hon’ble Minister of Sports; Dr. Virendra Kumar, Hon’ble Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment; and Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. Together with Hyundai’s top leadership, they celebrated the initiative’s successes and set the stage for future strides in inclusivity.
Driving Accessibility and Awareness: A Year in Review
In its inaugural year, ‘Samarth by Hyundai’ has made notable progress, from raising public awareness to improving infrastructure for accessibility. Hyundai has retrofitted its dealerships to be more accessible, introduced disabled-friendly vehicle accessories like the TurnPlus swivel seat, and fostered partnerships with NGOs and media to create a more inclusive environment.
Hyundai also presented a “Charter of Recommendations for Enhancing Accessibility and Inclusivity” to the Government of India, outlining key steps to further inclusivity efforts nationwide. The introduction of the ‘Samarth Hero Awards’ was a key highlight, recognizing individuals and organizations for their contributions to empowering people with disabilities.
Honoring Para Athletes and Advocating Inclusivity
The celebration included the felicitation of seven Indian Paralympians, who were supported under the Samarth initiative. Hyundai’s commitment to para sports has extended beyond recognition, with the company partnering with the GoSports Foundation to support para-athletes through financial aid, sports science guidance, and mentorship.
Furthering its reach, Hyundai, in collaboration with the Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, organized a Blind Men’s Cricket Series, bringing visibility to visually impaired athletes and supporting grassroots cricket for the blind in India.
Building an Inclusive Future: Technology and Infrastructure
Looking ahead, HMIL remains committed to making India a more inclusive society. Over the next year, Hyundai aims to continue its focus on assistive devices, para-sports, and raising awareness about inclusivity. By integrating technology and infrastructure improvements and expanding its partnerships with NGOs, media, and government entities, Hyundai hopes to lead the charge in creating accessible spaces for all.
