Hyundai Reaches New Heights: 10 Crore Vehicles Rolls Off the Line, Accelerating Future of Electrification

Ulsan, Sept. 29, 2024 – Hyundai Motor Company has achieved a monumental milestone in its automotive journey, producing 100 million vehicles worldwide. In just 57 years, the South Korean automaker has cemented its place among global industry leaders, marking the event with a celebratory ceremony at its Ulsan Plant—the beating heart of the company’s manufacturing prowess.

The celebration wasn’t just about hitting the 100-million mark, however. In a symbolic gesture representing Hyundai’s unwavering pursuit of innovation, the company delivered the “100 million and first” vehicle, a cutting-edge Ioniq 5, to a customer as part of the festivities. The handover, performed at the shipping center’s final inspection conveyor, showcased Hyundai’s vision for the future—moving beyond past achievements and driving forward into the electrified era.

Jaehoon Chang, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor, highlighted the significance of this milestone. “Achieving 100 million units globally is more than a number; it is a testament to the loyalty of our customers and our commitment to constant innovation. As we look ahead, we aim to accelerate toward a future where electrification will redefine mobility.”

Since its inception in 1968, the Ulsan Plant has been a cornerstone of Hyundai’s journey. From producing Korea’s first mass-produced independent model, the Pony, in 1975, to now spearheading Hyundai’s electric vehicle (EV) revolution, the facility represents Hyundai’s spirit of resilience and forward-thinking. The company’s ongoing investments in EV production, including the establishment of a dedicated EV facility, further illustrate Hyundai’s determination to lead the charge in sustainable mobility.

Dong Seock Lee, President of Domestic Productions and Chief Safety Officer, added, “Every single employee at Hyundai Motor has played a role in this historic achievement. Today is not just a reflection of the past but a look into the future—a future powered by electrification, where Hyundai will lead.”

Hyundai’s rapid ascent can be attributed to bold moves, including the launch of its luxury Genesis line and the high-performance N brand, alongside its commitment to electric vehicles like the Ioniq 5, which is built on the innovative electric global modular platform (E-GMP). With production facilities spanning Turkey, India, the U.S., and the Czech Republic, Hyundai’s global reach is undeniable.

Last year, Hyundai continued its trajectory toward innovation with the creation of the Hyundai Motor Group Global Innovation Center in Singapore (HMGICS). The center is driving advancements in smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and robotics, laying the foundation for Hyundai’s future production capabilities at facilities like the upcoming Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA).

With 100 million vehicles behind them, Hyundai Motor is poised to keep pushing boundaries—whether through electrification, cutting-edge production methods, or customer-driven innovation. The milestone, marked by the delivery of the 100 millionth and first vehicle, represents not just an end but the start of Hyundai’s next chapter: a sustainable, electrified future.
