Prime Minister Modi Engages with Tata Sons and PSMC on Expanding Semiconductor Ventures in India

New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a significant meeting with the leadership of Tata Sons and Taiwan-based Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), discussing the future of semiconductor manufacturing in India. This high-level discussion centered on the progress and expansion of semiconductor production facilities, a critical step toward bolstering India’s technological self-reliance and reducing dependency on global semiconductor imports.

Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, represented the Indian conglomerate at the meeting, alongside key officials from PSMC. The conversation focused on accelerating current projects while also exploring avenues for expanding PSMC’s operational footprint in India. This collaboration is seen as crucial for positioning India as a global semiconductor hub, especially amidst rising demand for chips across industries such as electronics, automotive, and telecommunications.

The Prime Minister took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share his optimism about the discussions. “Had a great meeting with the leadership team of Tata Sons and PSMC. They shared updates on their semiconductor manufacturing projects. PSMC expressed enthusiasm to further expand its footprint in India,” he posted.

India’s push to develop a robust semiconductor ecosystem is part of a broader initiative under the government’s ‘Make in India’ program, aimed at reducing reliance on imports and enhancing domestic manufacturing capabilities. As the world grapples with a semiconductor shortage, the collaboration between Tata Sons and PSMC is poised to play a critical role in positioning India as a competitive player in the global semiconductor market.
