Nagpur | August 05, 2024 – In a significant stride towards improving public health and education, the Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the corporate social responsibility arm of Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), has launched Project H2OPE in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. This initiative has seen the installation of water RO systems across 100 government schools, directly benefiting over 35,000 students.
The inauguration ceremony of these water RO systems was graced by Shri. Girish Mahajan, Minister of Rural Development & Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Maharashtra. The project aims to foster a healthier and more conducive learning environment by providing access to clean drinking water, a fundamental necessity for the wellbeing and academic success of students.
Speaking about the initiative, Puneet Anand, Vertical Head of Corporate Communication and Social at HMIL, said, “Aligned with Hyundai’s global vision of ‘Progress for Humanity,’ the Hyundai Motor India Foundation took the initiative to ensure access to clean drinking water for school children in the Gadchiroli region. Project H2OPE not only addresses a basic need but also aims to create a supportive and nurturing environment for the academic prosperity of these students.”
Project H2OPE is HMIF’s ambitious program designed to ensure access to clean drinking water through comprehensive measures such as groundwater management, waterbody restoration, and water purification. The recent installation of water RO systems in 100 schools in Gadchiroli aims to significantly improve the health and hygiene of over 35,000 school children in the region.
In its first phase in 2023, Project H2OPE saw the installation of RO water systems in 50 schools in Madhya Pradesh, benefiting over 30,000 children and 3,000 staff members. The success of this phase has set a promising precedent for the ongoing efforts in Maharashtra.
This initiative by HMIF highlights the critical role that access to clean water plays in the educational and overall development of children, ensuring they have a healthier future and the opportunity to thrive academically.
