BYD Sealion 7 Hits 5,000 Deliveries in India Since February 2025 Launch

New Delhi: BYD India has announced that its Sealion 7 electric SUV has crossed 5,000 customer deliveries in the country since its launch in February 2025, marking a significant milestone for the Chinese automaker’s premium electric vehicle business. The achievement comes as the company expands the SUV’s line-up with new variants aimed at attracting a broader range of Indian buyers.

The milestone reflects the Sealion 7’s growing presence in India’s premium electric SUV segment, where manufacturers are increasingly competing on driving range, performance, technology and equipment rather than relying on electrification alone.

The Sealion 7 is now available in Dynamic, Premium and Performance variants, alongside a limited-run Festive Edition, giving customers a wider selection of specifications and price points.

BYD Sealion 7: Performance, Battery and Technology

Built around BYD’s electric vehicle technologies, the Sealion 7 combines the company’s Blade Battery system with Cell-to-Body architecture, which integrates the battery pack into the vehicle’s structure.

The Premium variant features an 82.56 kWh battery and offers a claimed driving range of 567 km under the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) testing standard.

For buyers seeking stronger performance, the dual-motor Sealion 7 Performance produces 390 kW of power and 690 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 4.5 seconds.

Both variants feature a panoramic glass roof and a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, among other technology and comfort features.

The performance figures demonstrate how modern electric SUVs are increasingly challenging conventional expectations about acceleration. Family-friendly practicality and sports-car-like acceleration are no longer mutually exclusive, even if the weekly grocery run rarely requires a 4.5-second sprint.

BYD Expands Sealion 7 Range With Dynamic and Festive Editions

In August 2026, BYD India introduced the Sealion 7 Dynamic at an introductory ex-showroom price of ₹41.90 lakh, establishing a new entry point into the SUV’s range.

The Dynamic variant is equipped with a 71.8 kWh Blade Battery and delivers a claimed NEDC driving range of 520 km. Despite its positioning as the entry-level model, it retains features including the panoramic glass roof and rotating touchscreen.

The expansion continued in October 2026 with the introduction of the Sealion 7 Festive Edition, priced at ₹50.60 lakh (ex-showroom).

Based on the Premium variant, the special edition introduces a Tan and Black interior combination, quilted Nappa leather seats, a panoramic glass roof with an electric sunshade and a head-up display.

Production of the Festive Edition is limited to 150 units. The model forms part of BYD India’s Celebrate Your Dreams with BYD festive campaign.

The additional variants reflect the company’s strategy of addressing different customer preferences within the premium electric SUV market, from buyers prioritising value and driving range to those seeking additional luxury and performance.

BYD India Highlights Growing Interest in Premium Electric SUVs

Commenting on the delivery milestone, Mr. Rajeev Chauhan, Head of Electric Passenger Vehicle Business, BYD India, said:

“The Sealion 7 has been one of our strongest-performing models in India, and we are proud of the response it has received from customers. This reflects the growing interest in electric SUVs that combine performance, technology and premium comfort. As we look ahead, our focus is on building on this momentum, strengthening the ownership experience and bringing more of BYD’s technology to Indian customers through a product portfolio that responds to their evolving needs.”

The statement underlines BYD India’s intention to build on the Sealion 7’s market performance while improving the ownership experience and introducing more of its electric vehicle technologies to Indian customers.

For the automaker, the 5,000-delivery milestone represents an important indicator of customer acceptance in a segment where purchase decisions are influenced not only by vehicle specifications but also by charging convenience, long-term reliability and aftersales support.

Five-Star Euro NCAP Rating and Multiple Industry Awards

Beyond its commercial performance, the BYD Sealion 7 has received several automotive industry recognitions.

The electric SUV secured the maximum five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, the European vehicle safety assessment programme.

It has also received several awards in 2026, including Luxury Mid-size SUV of the Year at the ACKO Drive TOTM 2026, Premium EV of the Year at the car&bike Awards 2026, Premium SUV of the Year at the TV9 Awards, and Best EV Design at the CarBike360 Auto Excellence Awards 2026.

BYD’s battery technology has received separate recognition. Its Blade Battery won Best New EV Battery Technology at the CarBike360 Auto Excellence Awards 2026, while the company was recognised as Pioneer in Battery Technology by Jagran Hi-Tech.

At the corporate level, BYD ranked No. 91 on the 2026 Fortune Global 500 list, marking its fifth consecutive appearance on the global business ranking.

What the Milestone Means for BYD in India

The Sealion 7’s 5,000-delivery milestone comes at a time when India’s electric passenger vehicle market is gradually expanding beyond entry-level and mass-market offerings.

Premium electric SUVs are increasingly being positioned as alternatives to conventional luxury vehicles, offering customers a combination of performance, digital technology, driving range and lower tailpipe emissions.

For BYD India, the expanding Sealion 7 range provides an opportunity to reach customers with different budgets and expectations while strengthening its presence in an increasingly competitive market.

However, sustaining that momentum will depend on more than product specifications or headline delivery figures. Customer confidence in charging infrastructure, service accessibility and the overall ownership experience will remain important factors in the company’s longer-term growth.

With 5,000 Sealion 7 vehicles now delivered in India, BYD has established a measurable foothold in the country’s premium electric SUV market. The next challenge will be converting that initial customer interest into sustained demand as competition intensifies and Indian buyers become increasingly discerning about what their electric vehicles deliver beyond the showroom.
