Bhagapura: Gestamp, the multinational automotive components manufacturer, on Tuesday officially inaugurated its new plant in Bhagapura, Gujarat, marking its fifth production facility in India and a ₹523.7 crore investment across two phases.
The facility, located in one of India’s key automotive manufacturing regions, strengthens Gestamp’s presence in the country two decades after it first entered the market. The company said the new plant will focus on highly engineered body-in-white components, a critical area for automakers seeking lighter, safer and more efficient vehicles.
The Bhagapura plant was officially inaugurated by Francisco J. Riberas, Executive Chairman of Gestamp; Antonio López, CEO Asia; Glyn Jones, Country Manager and President of Gestamp India; and Patricia Riberas, Chief Corporate Officer.
The investment comes at a time when Gestamp is pursuing a selective global investment strategy, prioritising growth markets while keeping a close watch on capital expenditure. That caution is understandable in an automotive world where every gram, rupee and forecast now seems to arrive with a spreadsheet attached.
Gestamp said the Gujarat plant reflects its confidence in India, even as global light vehicle production is expected to decline in 2026. India, however, remains a growth market, with light vehicle production forecast to reach 7.8 million units by 2030, a 28% increase over 2025 levels, according to current S&P Global Mobility projections.
The plant currently employs around 240 professionals and offers 31,790 square metres of manufacturing capacity. Gestamp said this capacity could expand in the future, subject to approvals and market demand.
The Bhagapura facility is equipped with two hot-stamping lines, a laser cutting line and welding cells for assembly operations. These technologies are used to produce complex structural components that can help reduce vehicle weight while improving crash performance and manufacturing efficiency.

The company said the plant has been designed for high levels of efficiency, flexibility and technological performance. It is currently focused on manufacturing body-in-white components and is equipped to manufacture products from the Ges-Gigastamping® family.
These large, lightweight components are aimed at helping automakers optimise vehicle efficiency, reduce CO₂ emissions, improve safety and simplify vehicle assembly processes. In an industry where shaving weight without compromising strength is almost a competitive sport, such technology has become increasingly important.
Gestamp has also introduced an energy monitoring system at the Bhagapura facility to identify and eliminate inefficiencies in energy consumption. The company said the plant also plans to enter into agreements for the purchase of electricity certified as originating from renewable sources.
Gestamp entered India in 2006 and initially participated in industrial projects through partnerships. From 2010 onwards, it began building its own manufacturing footprint in the country.
With the addition of Bhagapura, Gestamp now operates five plants in India: three in Pune, Maharashtra; one in Chennai, Tamil Nadu; and one in Bhagapura, Gujarat. The company said its customer proximity strategy and focus on localisation have supported its expansion in the country.
Gestamp’s total manufacturing footprint in India now stands at 188,000 square metres. Its operations include 14 stamping production lines, five of which use hot-stamping technology. The company is also installing two additional hot-stamping lines to further strengthen its capabilities.
Across India, Gestamp generates approximately 2,300 jobs through its work in body-in-white components and assemblies, chassis parts, and mechanisms such as hinges and door checks.
The company said its revenues in India increased by more than 80% over the last five full financial years, reaching €245 million by the end of 2025.
For Gestamp, the Bhagapura plant is more than an additional pin on the industrial map. It places the company deeper inside one of the world’s most closely watched automotive markets, where demand for safer, lighter and more efficient vehicles is expected to shape the next phase of manufacturing growth.
