Mahindra SUV Sales Surge 50% to 59,257 Units in August 2026; Total Sales Reach 107,648

Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.) reported total vehicle sales of 107,648 units in August 2026, including exports, marking a 42% year-on-year increase, as strong demand for sport utility vehicles was accompanied by growth in commercial vehicles, three-wheelers and overseas shipments.

The company’s domestic utility vehicle sales climbed 50% to 59,257 units, compared with 39,399 units in August 2025. Including exports, Mahindra sold 61,167 utility vehicles during the month.

The SUV performance remained the biggest contributor to Mahindra’s August numbers. For the year-to-date period through August, domestic utility vehicle sales stood at 294,050 units, up 22% from 241,337 units during the corresponding period a year earlier.

According to Dr Velusamy R, President, Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., “In August, we achieved SUV sales of 59257 units delivering growth of 50%, and total vehicle sales stood at 107648, a 42% YoY growth. Demand continues to remain strong across our portfolio, with the updated Scorpio-N and BE 6 SPORTEQ receiving strong market response from customers. We look forward to building on this momentum during the festive season.”

Commercial vehicle sales rise 22%

Mahindra’s domestic commercial vehicle sales stood at 27,415 units in August, representing growth of about 22% year on year.

Sales of light commercial vehicles weighing less than two tonnes increased 37% to 3,999 units, from 2,925 units a year earlier. Year-to-date sales in the segment reached 17,851 units, up 32% from 13,496 units.

In the 2-tonne to 3.5-tonne LCV category, which includes the Bolero Maxx PUP HD 1.9 and HD 2.0, August sales rose 20% to 23,416 units, compared with 19,502 units in the year-ago month.

Year-to-date sales in that category increased 19% to 108,350 units, against 90,834 units during the corresponding period last year.

Three-wheeler volumes jump 42%

Mahindra also recorded strong growth in its three-wheeler business, including electric three-wheelers.

Domestic three-wheeler sales increased 42% to 14,922 units in August, from 10,527 units a year ago. Cumulative sales through August reached 65,715 units, a 62% increase over 40,561 units in the same period of the previous year.

The figures include sales by Mahindra subsidiary Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited.

The pace of growth means SUVs were not the only part of Mahindra’s portfolio doing the heavy lifting in August — the smaller three-wheelers were keeping themselves rather busy as well.

Exports surge 71% in August

Mahindra’s exports showed the fastest monthly growth among the major categories reported by the company.

Total exports increased 71% to 6,054 vehicles, compared with 3,548 units in August 2025.

For the year-to-date period through August, exports reached 26,012 units, up 63% from 15,983 units in the corresponding period a year earlier.

Mahindra said its reported utility vehicle numbers include sales made by subsidiary Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited, while relevant commercial vehicle and three-wheeler figures include sales from Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited.

Overall, the August figures show broad-based year-on-year growth across Mahindra’s automotive operations, with SUVs providing the largest volume base while three-wheelers and exports delivered particularly strong percentage gains. With India’s festive buying period approaching, the durability of that demand will now determine whether August’s momentum carries into the coming months.
