Mumbai/Karnataka: Bombay Logistics has flagged off a fleet of Blue Energy Motors heavy-duty LNG trucks for commercial operations in Karnataka, with the vehicles set to support JSW Steel’s industrial freight requirements in the Toranagallu region.
The deployment marks an expansion of alternative-fuel trucking in heavy industrial logistics, where vehicles routinely face high utilisation, long operating hours and demanding freight conditions.
According to Blue Energy Motors, its LNG trucks are designed for intensive commercial applications and can deliver up to 20% better fuel efficiency. The company says the improved efficiency is intended to lower operating costs while reducing the carbon intensity associated with freight transportation.
Thimmaraj Kakarla, Managing Partner, Bombay Logistics, said, “For us, the move to LNG is about finding a practical solution that works on the road and makes commercial sense. The performance and fuel efficiency of the Blue Energy Motors trucks were important considerations, while the Blue Energy Motors team’s support throughout the deployment, from vehicle handover and route planning to on-ground assistance, made the transition seamless. As these trucks begin operations for JSW Steel, we see this as a meaningful step towards improving operating efficiency while reducing the carbon footprint of our freight movement.”
The choice of LNG reflects a broader effort by commercial fleet operators to balance two priorities that do not always travel comfortably in the same cab: keeping freight economics viable while reducing emissions.
Anand Mimani, CEO, EV & New Energy, Blue Energy Motors, said, “We are pleased to support Bombay Logistics in deploying our LNG trucks for demanding industrial operations. For us, the priority is simple: deliver the performance and reliability the customer needs while making the shift to cleaner freight practical.”
Bombay Logistics said its leadership team, including Raghavendra Ghodke, Managing Partner, and Deewakar Kakarla, General Manager, is continuing to focus on improving operational efficiency and evaluating alternative-fuel technologies for commercial transport.
Blue Energy Motors currently has more than 1,400 trucks operating across major freight routes in India. The company says its vehicles have collectively covered more than 100 million “green kilometres” on Indian roads and helped avoid over 30,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
According to Blue Energy Motors, that reduction is equivalent to the carbon absorption of nearly 1.2 million trees. The company also describes itself as India’s No. 1 Green Truck Brand and has been expanding its presence across both LNG and electric heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
The Bombay Logistics deployment adds another industrial use case to Blue Energy Motors’ growing alternative-fuel fleet operations. More broadly, such deployments will be closely watched by the logistics sector, where cleaner trucking technologies will ultimately be judged not only by their emissions credentials but also by the less glamorous—and equally important—measures of fuel efficiency, reliability and cost per kilometre.
