BYD India Partners With FEEED NGO for School, Hospital and Sustainability Projects

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: BYD India Private Limited has announced the completion of a series of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in Tamil Nadu, covering education, healthcare and environmental sustainability, including the redevelopment of a government school campus, support for a government hospital and a plantation drive.

The initiatives, implemented in partnership with FEEED NGO, include the School Infrastructure Development Project at the Government Panchayat Union Primary School in Keevalur Village, Sriperumbudur; the provision of advanced hospital equipment to Uthiramerur Government Hospital in Kancheepuram district; and a plantation drive aimed at creating greener community spaces.

The school infrastructure project is expected to directly benefit nearly 200 students every year. BYD India said the redevelopment focuses on improving campus infrastructure, safety, accessibility and the overall learning environment, while also providing learning tools and guidance.

The upgraded facilities include redesigned classrooms, a canteen and improved teaching spaces. The company said the improvements are intended to support better classroom engagement, strengthen learning outcomes and create a more conducive environment for both students and teachers. In simple terms, the blackboard is getting some much-needed backup.

Beyond education, BYD India has extended support to healthcare infrastructure in Kancheepuram district by providing advanced hospital beds to Uthiramerur Government Hospital. The intervention is aimed at improving treatment and recovery conditions, while helping healthcare professionals deliver better patient care.

The company also carried out a plantation drive in collaboration with FEEED NGO, linking the local CSR programme with its broader sustainability approach. The initiative is intended to promote biodiversity and contribute to healthier community surroundings.

Speaking on the initiatives, Rajeev Chauhan, Head of Electric Passenger Vehicles (EPV) Business at BYD India, said:

“At BYD, sustainability goes beyond clean mobility—it extends to creating meaningful and lasting impact within the communities we serve. Education, healthcare and environmental stewardship are fundamental pillars of a stronger society. We are pleased to play a role in shaping young minds by enabling an enhanced, modern educational space while simultaneously supporting healthcare infrastructure and promoting sustainability in the region. We remain committed to delivering practical interventions that create long-term social value and empower communities.”

The School Infrastructure Development Project is part of BYD India’s broader CSR programme, which focuses on strengthening education, healthcare and community infrastructure through need-based interventions. The company said it continues to work with implementation partners and local stakeholders to ensure projects are executed efficiently and deliver measurable long-term outcomes.

BYD India said the initiative aligns with BYD’s global sustainability philosophy of “Technological Innovations for a Better Life,” extending its focus beyond electric mobility to social development and community empowerment.

Globally, BYD has sold more than 16.5 million New Energy Vehicles, which the company says has contributed to reducing more than 144 billion kilograms of CO2 emissions — equivalent to the amount nearly 2.4 billion trees would absorb over one year.

As BYD India expands its footprint in the country, the company’s latest CSR initiatives underline a wider industry trend: automakers are increasingly being measured not only by what they put on the road, but also by what they build around it — from classrooms and hospitals to greener neighbourhoods.
