New Delhi: In a market obsessed with SUVs, Tata Motors has decided that the humble hatchback deserves its moment in the spotlight again. And it isn’t just a small upgrade. With the launch of the Next-Gen Tiago and Tiago.ev, Tata Motors has effectively handed its popular hatchback a complete makeover, packing in technology, safety, and design features that would have seemed wildly ambitious for this segment just a few years ago.
Priced from ₹4.69 lakh for the petrol-powered Tiago and ₹6.99 lakh for the Tiago.ev, Tata is targeting customers who want premium experiences without premium-sized EMIs. For those looking to enter the EV world, Tata is also offering a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option starting at ₹4.69 lakh plus battery charges of ₹2.6 per kilometre, making electric mobility more accessible than ever.
The launch marks a significant milestone for the Tiago brand, which has earned the trust of over 7 lakh customers over the past decade. According to Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Managing Director and CEO Shailesh Chandra, the new Tiago isn’t merely an update—it’s a complete reinvention of what customers should expect from a hatchback.
“Hatchbacks remain the gateway to personal mobility for millions of Indian families, yet the segment has not received the attention it truly deserves. The Next-Gen Tiago changes that by bringing premium features, advanced safety and connected technologies that were previously reserved for higher segments,” Chandra said.

Premium Features Arrive in the Hatchback Lane
The biggest headline grabber is the technology package. Tata has introduced a segment-first 360-degree Surround View Camera along with a Blind View Monitor, features usually associated with SUVs costing two or three times more.
Inside, the Tiago gets a fresh dashboard layout featuring dual digital screens, a new steering wheel, a larger 26.03 cm HD touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless smartphone charging, and Tata’s latest iRA connected car technology with over 35 connected features.
The company has also worked extensively on the design. The hatchback receives a wider stance, redesigned front and rear styling, LED DRLs, connected tail lamps, and new alloy wheels. New colour options such as Varanasi Vibrance, Dehradun Dew, Pangong Pulse, and Sobo Surge add a distinctly Indian flavour to the palette.
Tiago.ev Goes Beyond Being Just an EV
While the petrol and CNG versions bring premium features to the hatchback segment, Tata believes the Tiago.ev has the potential to redefine entry-level electric mobility.
One of its biggest highlights is the industry-first Lifetime High Voltage Battery Warranty, addressing one of the biggest concerns potential EV buyers have regarding long-term battery health and replacement costs.
Charging times have also improved significantly. Tata claims the new Tiago.ev can gain 100 kilometres of driving range in just 18 minutes using fast charging infrastructure.
The company is positioning the Tiago.ev not merely as an environmentally friendly alternative, but as a financially intelligent purchase. According to Tata, the lower running costs can help owners recover a significant portion of the vehicle’s purchase cost within four to five years, with even greater savings possible for customers using solar-powered home charging.
In simple terms, Tata is making a bold claim: the Tiago.ev is a car that can actually help your wallet breathe easier over time.
Choice Remains a Key Strength
Unlike many rivals that offer limited powertrain combinations, Tata continues to give customers a wide range of choices.
The Next-Gen Tiago lineup includes:
- Petrol Manual
- Petrol AMT
- iCNG Manual
- iCNG AMT
- Electric
Notably, Tata remains the first manufacturer in India to offer CNG with an AMT gearbox, thanks to its Twin-Cylinder iCNG technology.
Safety Takes Centre Stage
Safety continues to be a cornerstone of Tata’s strategy. The Next-Gen Tiago comes equipped with six airbags as standard, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), traction control, automatic headlamps, and the new 360-degree camera system.
Tata says the hatchback has been engineered to perform in demanding double-impact collision scenarios, reinforcing its focus on occupant protection.
A Hatchback Refuses to Be Forgotten
At a time when every second car launch seems to involve a taller body, black cladding, and the word “SUV” somewhere in the brochure, Tata’s latest move is refreshingly different.
With premium technology, enhanced safety, multiple powertrain options, and aggressive pricing, the Next-Gen Tiago and Tiago.ev are a reminder that hatchbacks can still be exciting, aspirational, and smart purchases.
And if Tata’s strategy works, India’s hatchback segment may finally get something it hasn’t received in a long time—some much-deserved attention. After all, not every family needs a mountain-conquering SUV when a well-equipped hatchback can conquer city traffic, parking lots, and monthly fuel bills with equal confidence.
