Tesla Turns Up the Voltage in India: New Model Y Premium RWD Arrives at ₹50.89 Lakh with Bigger Screens, Sleeker Cabin and Lower EMI

New Delhi: Tesla is giving Indian EV enthusiasts another reason to keep refreshing their dream-car spreadsheets. The American electric vehicle giant has officially introduced the 2026 Tesla Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive in India, bringing a more premium cabin experience, upgraded technology and a fresh design package to what remains the world’s best-selling electric vehicle as of March 2026.

Priced at ₹50.89 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Model Y Premium RWD will begin deliveries in July 2026, strengthening Tesla’s growing presence in the Indian market alongside the recently launched six-seater Model Y L Premium.

The latest addition is not about radical reinvention but rather a thoughtful upgrade. Think of it as Tesla giving its bestseller a luxury spa treatment rather than a complete makeover.

The most noticeable change inside is the introduction of an all-black interior theme, complete with a black headliner and premium trim elements designed to create a more sophisticated cabin atmosphere. Buyers looking for something lighter can opt for the new Zen Grey interior, offering a minimalist and contemporary feel.

Technology also gets a boost with a new 16-inch front touchscreen, larger and more responsive than before. The upgraded display promises quicker access to navigation, entertainment and vehicle controls—perfect for those moments when adjusting the air-conditioning feels as important as finding the nearest charging station.

Beyond aesthetics and technology, practicality remains a key selling point. The Model Y Premium offers up to 2,138 litres of cargo capacity, thanks to its flexible seating arrangement and power-folding rear seats. The electric SUV accommodates five passengers while still providing generous luggage space for family trips, airport runs or spontaneous weekend escapes.

Performance remains impressively brisk. Powered by Tesla’s ultra-responsive electric motor setup, the Model Y Premium accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds and delivers a WLTP-certified driving range of up to 500 km on a single charge.

Tesla is also highlighting the model’s safety credentials. Both the new Model Y Premium RWD and the larger Model Y L Premium have earned top ratings from several global safety agencies, including NHTSA and IIHS in the United States, Euro NCAP in Europe, ANCAP in Australia and New Zealand, and C-IASI in China.

The launch follows the recent introduction of the Model Y L Premium, a six-seater family-oriented version priced from ₹61.99 lakh. The larger variant offers up to 681 km of WLTP range, a 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.0 seconds, and an expansive 2,539 litres of cargo space. With three rows of seating, Tesla is positioning it as a premium electric family mover for buyers who need extra room without compromising on performance.

Speaking on Tesla’s India strategy, Isabel Fan, Senior Director, Tesla, said the company’s mission is to build “a world of amazing abundance” by making electric mobility more accessible through advanced vehicle technology and convenient charging solutions. She confirmed that Tesla plans to continue investing in India through expanded retail presence, after-sales support and charging infrastructure.

Perhaps the biggest headline for prospective buyers is Tesla’s new finance package. Customers can now drive home the Model Y Premium RWD with EMIs starting at ₹39,990 per month and a down payment of ₹6 lakh, significantly reducing the upfront cost of ownership.

Tesla claims owners can save as much as ₹20,000 per month through lower fuel and maintenance expenses compared to conventional internal combustion vehicles. In theory, that could make the effective ownership cost comparable to what many premium SUV and sedan buyers already spend every month on fuel alone—a concept that may finally make accountants and EV enthusiasts agree on something.

Supporting ownership further is Tesla’s expanding Home Charging Program, which now serves customers across all Indian states. The company also reiterated its commitment to building a comprehensive public charging network as adoption grows.

With two Model Y variants now available in India and a broader charging ecosystem on the horizon, Tesla appears to be shifting from simply entering the Indian market to actively competing for a larger share of the premium SUV segment.

And if the company’s plans unfold as intended, the biggest challenge for many future owners may no longer be range anxiety—but deciding whether to spend their monthly fuel savings on vacations, gadgets or simply more road trips in their Tesla.
