New Delhi — In the wake of swirling rumours and speculative headlines claiming that Nissan might be packing its bags in India, the automaker has released a statement that’s equal parts reassurance and reality check.
Nissan Motor India, seemingly unamused by the tabloid tea party, clarified in a no-nonsense update: “No, we are not shutting down plants. Yes, we are still very much open for automotive business.”
The company reiterated its “One Car, One World” philosophy and confirmed that its India operations — including sales, service, and ambitious product plans — are still revving ahead. So if you were hoping for an SUV stamped “Final Edition – India,” you’ll be disappointed. Nissan says its upcoming lineup includes an all-new Big MPV (BMPV) and two shiny new C-SUVs, because nothing says commitment like three new models barreling toward showrooms.
The rumour mill began grinding overtime following March’s announcement that Renault Group would acquire Nissan’s 51% stake in Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Ltd (RNAIPL). That move, Nissan insists, is part of a global rebalancing act — not a curtain call. In short, Renault may be buying, but Nissan isn’t packing.
The automaker further stressed that its dealer partners and workforce remain central to its roadmap. “We’re here. We’re focused. We’re not giving a plant tour to the exit gate,” the company quipped (well, not in so many words, but the tone was clear).
While Nissan has decided to keep further comments in the glovebox for now, it has promised stakeholders full transparency going forward. So until there’s an actual assembly line being unplugged — hold the headlines, folks.
Nissan isn’t leaving India. Just the gossip should.
