Tata Companies Join Forces to Propel India’s Zero-Emissions Future

Innovative Collaboration Combines Electric Vehicles and Solar Rooftop Solutions for Cost-Effective, Green Mobility

Mumbai, August 6, 2024 – In a groundbreaking initiative, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEML) and Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL) have teamed up to advance zero-emissions mobility in India. The collaboration integrates Electric Vehicles (EVs) with Solar Rooftop Systems, aiming to provide near-zero running costs for EV owners and promote sustainable energy solutions across the country.

Driving the Green Revolution

The partnership between TPEML, a leader in the Indian electric vehicle market, and TPREL, a major player in renewable energy, will enable customers to install solar rooftop systems through TPREL. This initiative is designed to enhance the appeal of EVs and solar power, driving awareness of their combined benefits among consumers.

Government Support and Strategic Benefits

India’s commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions is supported by various government initiatives, including the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to subsidize solar rooftop installations for 10 million households. By combining EVs and solar systems, the partnership seeks to lower the total cost of EV ownership, reduce electricity bills for EV users, and offer 100% emissions-free power.

Leadership Insights

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of TPEML and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., highlighted the significance of this collaboration: “India’s net zero journey hinges on adopting EVs and renewable power. By leveraging the synergies between EV and solar rooftop customers, we aim to democratize zero-emissions mobility and cut down on running costs.”

Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, emphasized the natural complementarity of EVs and solar rooftops: “This sustainable solution appeals to eco-friendly, value-conscious consumers. Our collaboration with TPEML will accelerate the adoption of these technologies, helping customers reduce emissions and save money.”

Expanding Reach and Impact

Tata Power is driving solar rooftop growth through its nationwide ‘GharGharSolar, Tata Power ke Sangh’ campaign. With over 700 channel partners and retailers, Tata Power has already served over 100,000 customers. The company has also installed 101,924 home chargers and 5,600 public chargers across India, providing extensive support for EV users.

TPREL’s strategic network of 5,600 public charging points, located along major highways and at key urban locations, underscores its role in promoting e-mobility. By offering solar-powered charging solutions, TPREL is helping to accelerate the shift to sustainable transportation across the nation.

This innovative collaboration between Tata companies marks a significant step towards a greener, more cost-effective future for India’s transportation sector, aligning with the country’s broader environmental goals and paving the way for widespread adoption of zero-emissions mobility.
