In a significant move to diversify its all-electric SUV offerings, Porsche has introduced two new models to its Macan range, effectively doubling the options for enthusiasts and eco-conscious drivers alike. The all-new rear-wheel-drive Macan and the performance-oriented Macan 4S are now available, broadening the appeal of Porsche’s electric vehicle (EV) lineup.
Expanding the Macan Family
The new rear-wheel-drive Macan serves as the entry point into Porsche’s all-electric SUV segment. Emphasizing efficiency and range, this model aims to provide a balanced blend of performance and practicality. Meanwhile, the Macan 4S, positioned between the Macan 4 and the high-end Macan Turbo, promises enhanced driving dynamics and superior power delivery.
Rear-Wheel-Drive Macan: Efficiency Meets Performance
The rear-wheel-drive Macan is powered by a robust 100 kWh high-voltage battery, driving a single rear-axle motor. This motor, boasting a diameter of 210 millimeters and an active length of 200 millimeters, delivers an output of 250 kW (340 PS). Equipped with advanced silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor materials, the Macan ensures minimal switching losses and higher efficiency. The vehicle can achieve a temporary overboost power of 265 kW (360 PS) and a peak torque of 563 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. Its top speed is rated at 220 km/h, and it offers a remarkable WLTP range of up to 641 km, thanks to its lightweight design and efficient power usage.
Macan 4S: Power and Precision
The Macan 4S introduces a new rear-axle motor paired with a potent 600-amp SiC pulse inverter. This combination results in a system output of 330 kW (448 PS), with a power boost of up to 380 kW (516 PS) available momentarily. The Macan 4S can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.1 seconds, reaching a top speed of 240 km/h. It features Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard, enhancing ride comfort and handling. Additionally, the Macan 4S offers a WLTP range of up to 606 km, making it a practical yet exhilarating choice for performance enthusiasts.
Design and Technology Innovations
Both new Macan models embody the sleek, aerodynamic design characteristic of the second-generation Macan, with a drag coefficient (cw) of 0.25. The 800-volt Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture supports DC charging capacities of up to 270 kW, enabling rapid charging from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 21 minutes at compatible stations.
New Features and Customization Options
Porsche has also introduced several new features and customization options for the entire Macan range. A fresh exterior color, Slate Grey Neo, and a new 20-inch Macan S wheel design are now available. The optional off-road design package enhances the Macan’s versatility, increasing its ground clearance and approach angles to better handle rugged terrain. This package is offered in two color schemes: Vesuvius Grey and body-colored options, with matching 21-inch wheels.
Advanced Driver Experience
The Porsche Driver Experience in the new Macan models features an advanced mix of digital and analogue elements. Highlights include a 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster, a 10.9-inch passenger display, and a head-up display with augmented reality. Ambient lighting with customizable communication lights and an updated Themes app allow for personalized interior aesthetics.
Availability and Delivery
Both the rear-wheel-drive Macan and the Macan 4S are available for order immediately, with deliveries expected in the latter half of the year. This expansion of the Macan lineup marks a significant step in Porsche’s commitment to electric mobility, providing more options for drivers seeking a blend of luxury, performance, and sustainability.
