Daytona Beach Gets Ready for a Mustang Stampede: Ford’s All-New Race Cars Set to Gallop at the Rolex 24

DAYTONA BEACH, Fl., Jan. 19, 2024 – Hold your horsepower, racing fans! The legendary Daytona International Speedway is about to witness a herd of wild Mustangs like never before. Ford is galloping back into the limelight with its all-new Mustang GT3 and GT4 race cars, set to make their grand debut at the much-anticipated Rolex 24 at Daytona.

It’s not just a race; it’s a full-blown Mustang extravaganza! The iconic pony car, which has long ruled the roads, is now aiming to conquer the racetrack. Ford Performance, in collaboration with Multimatic Motorsports, has unleashed these mechanical beasts, ready to show their mettle in multiple races.

“We’re not horsing around this time,” quipped Mark Rushbrook, Global Director of Ford Performance Motorsports. “Daytona has been our playground for historic moments, and we’re ready to add a few more!”

In the GTD Pro class, Ford and Multimatic are fielding two factory-backed GT3 teams. Chris Mies, Mike Rockenfeller, and Harry Tincknell will saddle up in Mustang No. 64, while Joey Hand, Dirk Müller, and Frédéric Vervisch will steer No. 65. Both numbers honor the Mustang’s 60th anniversary – because who doesn’t love a good birthday bash?

Meanwhile, the Mustang GT3 customer team, Proton Competition, is entering the fray with their stallion, No. 55, in the GTD Class. It’s not just a race; it’s a Mustang parade!

For those who prefer a bit of ‘under-the-hood’ talk, these Mustangs are no ordinary ponies. They’ve been through a rigorous training regime, with extensive testing and optimization. “We’ve worked tirelessly to ensure these cars are more than just show ponies. They’re thoroughbreds through and through,” stated Larry Holt, Multimatic’s EVP.

The Mustang GT4 is also making its grand entrance, with teams KohR Motorsports and McCumbee McAleer Racing leading the charge in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and the IMSA VP Racing Sports Car Challenge. It’s like a Mustang family reunion on the track!

The Rolex 24 at Daytona has been a playground for Ford’s victories, from their first win in 1966 to their recent triumph in 2017. And this year, they’re not just participating; they’re looking to start a Mustang stampede.

As the engines rev and the excitement builds, one thing is clear – Daytona Beach is about to witness a Mustang spectacle like never before. So, buckle up, racing enthusiasts, because when these Mustangs hit the track, it’s going to be a wild ride!
