Toyota India Unveils New Technical Education Program and STAR Scholarship at Bareilly Polytechnic

Bengaluru, 14 June 2024: In a bid to bolster the ‘Skill India’ initiative, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has launched the 66th Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) facility alongside the STAR (Scholarship Program for Technical Education and Recognition) at The Government Polytechnic in Bareilly. These initiatives aim to enhance the technical skills and employability of students, particularly from rural areas, through the comprehensive Toyota Technical Education Program.

The event, attended by D C Verma, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh, and other dignitaries, highlighted TKM’s dedication to skill development. Narendra Kumar, Principal of Government Polytechnic Bareilly, and Shivam Gupta, Director of Commercial Toyota, also graced the occasion.

TKM’s programs like the Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI) and T-TEP have been instrumental in offering world-class training to economically disadvantaged students for over a decade. A notable success story is Akhilesh Narasimhamurthy, a TTTI alumnus and a Mechatronics Bronze Medalist at the 2022 World Skills Contest, who had the privilege of meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The T-TEP, a year-long program with On-the-Job Training (OJT), is tailored for final-year ITI/Diploma students. It includes specialized training by Toyota, practical skills development at Toyota dealerships, and a curriculum designed to impart knowledge of advanced technologies. Last year, TKM introduced the STAR scholarship program, which has since helped over 13,000 students, with more than 70% securing employment in various automotive companies.

D C Verma praised TKM’s efforts, saying, “TKM’s initiatives align perfectly with our mission to enhance employability and drive economic growth, particularly for students from rural and economically challenged backgrounds. The T-TEP and STAR scholarship will provide valuable insights into Toyota’s values and advanced technologies, contributing to overall skill development.”

Vikram Gulati, Country Head and Executive Vice President for Corporate Affairs and Governance at TKM, emphasized the transformative power of technical training. He stated, “Our T-TEP facility and the STAR program exemplify our commitment to cultivating a skilled workforce while supporting the broader ‘Skill India’ mission.”

Narendra Kumar, Principal of Government Polytechnic Bareilly, expressed optimism about the partnership, noting, “The training and scholarship support from TKM will empower our students to achieve their career aspirations and make meaningful contributions to the automotive sector and the nation.”

Shivam Gupta highlighted the program’s importance, “The Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) provides students with a cutting-edge curriculum that significantly boosts their employability, paving the way for a brighter future.”

TKM, in collaboration with its dealer partner, has invested over Rs 1.5 million in enhancing infrastructure, developing e-learning content, and providing engines, transmissions, practice kits, and faculty training through its Train-The-Trainer approach. The STAR program aims to support deserving students from economically challenged backgrounds by providing scholarships up to Rs 51,000 per year, covering hostel fees, educational expenses, and family support.

The pilot program will benefit students across 11 states and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. TKM remains committed to expanding the T-TEP initiative to rural areas, promoting skill development, and providing opportunities for talented students to excel in the automotive sector. Since its inception in 2006, T-TEP has continually evolved to meet the ever-changing demands of the industry, contributing significantly to the ‘Skill India’ mission.
