Breaking Ground: The All-Electric 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV

DETROIT – Chevrolet has officially begun production of the groundbreaking 2024 Silverado EV First Edition RST, a truck that redefines electric vehicle capabilities with an impressive blend of range, power, and technology. The 2024 Silverado EV is set to revolutionize the market with its extraordinary specifications:

  • EPA-estimated 450-mile range on a full charge for the 4WT model.
  • GM-estimated 440-mile range on a full charge for the RST model.
  • Up to 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque in the max power Wide Open Watts Mode on the First Edition RST, achieving a GM-estimated 0-60 mph time of under 4.5 seconds.
  • Standard DC fast charging capabilities (up to 350kW) on both WT and RST models.
  • 10.2kW offboard power capacity on WT and RST with optional equipment.
  • 10,000 pounds of maximum trailering and up to 1,500 pounds of payload on the RST model.

Chevrolet, leveraging nearly a century of experience in truck manufacturing and expertise in vehicle electrification, has created a product that marries traditional truck performance with the benefits of electrification. Scott Bell, Vice President of Chevrolet, emphasized the strategic advantage gained through the company’s deep understanding of customer needs in the pickup segment.

The Silverado EV, built on GM’s advanced Ultium Platform, is available in two configurations: the feature-packed First Edition RST and the fleet-oriented WT model. Both configurations come with a comprehensive suite of standard and available safety technologies.

Key Features of the First Edition RST:

  • Four-Wheel Steer for enhanced maneuverability.
  • Automatic Adaptive Air Suspension for a smoother ride.
  • Multi-Flex Midgate and Tailgate to expand cargo capacity while maintaining rear passenger seating.
  • 17-inch diagonal LCD infotainment screen paired with an 11-inch diagonal driver display and a 14-inch head-up display.
  • Trailering-capable Super Cruise for hands-free driving on over 400,000 miles of compatible roads in the U.S. and Canada.

The fleet-focused WT model, launched for commercial customers last year, also impresses with 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque, offering robust performance for organizations aiming for sustainability.

Design and Engineering Excellence

The Silverado EV’s design, both inside and out, is optimized for performance and utility. The vehicle’s body architecture integrates the Ultium battery pack into its structure, providing strength, durability, and a comfortable ride. The chassis features independent front and rear suspensions, and the RST model comes with 24-inch wheels driven by front and rear motors, forming the e4WD system.

Kathy Gillespie, Silverado EV Chief Engineer, highlighted the comprehensive performance capabilities of the Silverado EV RST, which excels in towing, hauling, and passenger comfort, making it the most powerful Silverado ever built.

Innovative Utility and Technology

The Silverado EV includes numerous features designed for maximum functionality:

  • eTrunk: A lockable, weatherproof compartment at the front for additional storage.
  • Multi-Flex Midgate and Tailgate: Expand cargo space up to nearly 11 feet with the Midgate open.
  • Advanced software system: Keeps the vehicle’s technology up to date.

Production and Availability

The Silverado EV is assembled at GM’s Factory ZERO Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center in Michigan, a facility retooled with a $2.2 billion investment for EV production. Available in multiple specs, the 2024 Silverado EV offers:

  • 4WT model: 450-mile range.
  • 3WT model: 393-mile range.
  • RST First Edition: 440-mile range with a starting price of $94,500.

Chevrolet plans to release a range of Silverado EV trims for retail customers soon, offering various range options and capabilities.

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV is poised to set new standards in the electric truck market, blending unmatched performance, innovative technology, and practical utility.
