DEARBORN, Mich., Mar. 4, 2024 – In a turbocharged effort to steer bright futures, Ford Motor Company and its philanthropic arm, Ford Fund, are cranking up the engine on education with a whopping $2 million investment. This hefty sum is set to turbo-boost the dreams of students nationwide, gearing them up for high-octane careers as automotive technicians. Covering 20 states and 292 schools, the Ford Auto Tech Scholarship is the company’s latest model for success, offering 400 need-based scholarships to those enrolled in post-secondary auto programs.
The road to becoming an auto tech is becoming increasingly complex, with a projected pothole of over 400,000 technician shortages by 2027. Ford’s scholarship program, now in its sophomore year, is not just an oil change but a complete engine overhaul for the industry, electrifying the path to innovation and software savvy careers.
Elena Ford, the company’s Chief Dealer Engagement Officer, revved up the excitement, stating, “As vehicles evolve into complex computers on wheels, we’re in dire need of genius techs to keep them zooming. Our dealers are opening their toolboxes to invest in future talent, driving community growth and sparking industry acceleration.”
With an open hood policy, the scholarship invites aspiring automotive technologists from 10 regions to dive under the bonnet, covering tuition, tools, and even the gas needed to drive their education forward. Ford dealers are lining up in the pit stop to provide mentorship, hands-on training, and a roadmap to career success.
Jennifer Maher, CEO of TechForce Foundation, added, “It’s not just about filling the tank; it’s about fueling innovation through diversity. Breaking down the barriers to entry is key to a smoother journey for all, powering a more inclusive and thriving ecosystem.”
The scholarships, administered by TechForce, a crew dedicated to championing future tech leaders, will empower recipients like Makenna Enga. As a pioneer from UTI-Phoenix, Enga is breaking the mold and challenging the status quo, proving that the industry’s future is not just bright but diverse.
Last year’s launch saw 200 students across four regions turbo-boost their way with $1 million in scholarships. This year’s expansion promises to shift even more dreams into high gear.
Aspiring gearheads in regions from Atlanta to Seattle have until Aug. 31, 2024, to apply for their chance to ride the scholarship highway.
