Hyundai India Hits a Six with ‘Sightless Superstars’ Cricket Series

Gurugram, March 04, 2024 – In a striking display of support for sports inclusivity, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has bowled over the nation by announcing the International Bilateral Blind Men’s Cricket Series. Dubbed as a part of their heartwarming ‘Samarth’ initiative, this series isn’t just about cricket; it’s a bold statement for humanity’s progress.

The event, a thrilling five-match face-off between the Indian Men’s Blind Cricket Team and their counterparts from Sri Lanka, is set to light up the Karnail Singh Stadium in New Delhi from 11th to 15th March 2024. Organized in partnership with the ‘Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled’ and the ‘Cricket Association for the Blind in India,’ this series marks a significant leap towards a more inclusive society.

Puneet Anand, the visionary AVP & Vertical Head of Corporate Affairs at HMIL, shared, “With cricket being a unifier in our culture, we saw no better way to champion equality and inclusivity. Our Samarth initiative is all about batting for those who are often sidelined, ensuring they too can play on the grand stage of life.”

The announcement follows Hyundai’s ongoing commitment to ‘Creating Shared Values’ (CSV), focusing on ‘Earth,’ ‘Mobility,’ and ‘Hope.’ The initiative aims not only to entertain but to enlighten, enabling people with disabilities by showcasing the extraordinary talents of visually impaired cricketers.

Dr. Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar, Chairman of CABI, expressed gratitude for Hyundai’s support, highlighting the series as a crucial opportunity for the players to shine on an international platform. Meanwhile, the Indian team’s captain, Durga Rao Tompaki, shared his excitement and optimism for the upcoming series and the 4th T20 World Cup later this year, thanking Hyundai, CABI, and the Samarthanam Trust for their unwavering support.

The ‘Sightless Superstars’ series promises not just cricket but a celebration of spirit, determination, and the breaking down of barriers. As the teams prepare to take the pitch, fans are gearing up for what promises to be an unforgettable spectacle of skill, courage, and sportsmanship. Hyundai Motor India, through its Samarth initiative, is indeed setting a precedent for corporations playing a pivotal role in fostering a more inclusive and empathetic society.
