Stuttgart/Las Vegas, January 10, 2024 – Mercedes-Benz, in partnership with Audible and Amazon Music, made an impressive announcement at CES 2024, heralding a revolutionary step in in-car entertainment. This collaboration is set to redefine the way Mercedes-Benz customers experience audio storytelling and music, utilizing the immersive capabilities of Dolby Atmos.
This partnership is a significant stride in enhancing the digital experience for Mercedes-Benz customers. “The immersive audio storytelling aligns perfectly with our advanced sound technology, offering an unparalleled in-car entertainment experience,” said Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management at Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Chief Technology Officer. The initiative is centered around the integration of Dolby Atmos in the Burmester 4D and 3D Surround Sound Systems, available in Mercedes-Benz vehicles equipped with the latest MBUX infotainment system.
Subscribers of Audible and Amazon Music can access a wide array of content, including audio books, Originals, podcasts, and music in Dolby Atmos, directly through the MBUX system. Steve Boom, Amazon VP for Audio, Twitch and Games, emphasizes the significance of this partnership: “Mercedes-Benz’s innovative approach complements our goal to transform car audio experiences into something more emotional and immersive.”
Audible, with its extensive catalogue of over 850,000 audiobooks, podcasts, and Originals, is set to bring an array of titles in Dolby Atmos, offering an unrivaled auditory experience. The rollout will begin in Q3 2024 via OTA updates for new Mercedes-Benz E-Class and CLE Coupé and Cabriolet models with the 3rd-generation MBUX system. Amazon Music in Dolby Atmos has been available since December 2023 in models with the 2nd-generation MBUX.
In addition to the announcement, CES visitors are invited to a series of talks and experiences at the Mercedes-Benz booth. Notable speakers include Magnus Östberg, Chief Software Officer at Mercedes-Benz AG, and Steve Boom, along with award-winning audio storytelling producer Dirk Maggs. They will discuss the impact of this collaboration on in-car storytelling.
