Hyundai Motor Unveils Vision for a Hydrogen-Powered Future at CES 2024

Las Vegas, January 9, 2024 – At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled its pioneering vision for the future, centering on hydrogen energy and software-defined mobility solutions. The exhibition, significantly larger than its 2022 predecessor, occupies about 21,600 square feet in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center and runs from January 9 to 12 under the theme ‘Ease every way.’

Hyundai Motor Group’s display offers an immersive journey into a human-centered future, underscored by the company’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2045. The exhibition showcases Hyundai’s advancements in hydrogen technology, including the HTWO brand’s expansion into the hydrogen value chain business and the ‘HTWO Grid’ solution package. This comprehensive approach covers the entire clean hydrogen value chain, from production to utilization.

A central feature of the exhibit is the media table that examines technologies applied at each stage of the hydrogen value chain. Innovations such as Plastic-to-Hydrogen (P2H) and Waste-to-Hydrogen (W2H) processes are showcased, alongside green hydrogen production technology. Hyundai is collaborating with Shell and other affiliates to transform waste materials and biogas into clean hydrogen energy.

Hyundai Glovis’s role in hydrogen logistics is highlighted, with a focus on transportation and distribution methods, including ammonia carriers and liquid hydrogen transport. Hyundai Glovis is actively preparing for a hydrogen society with its maritime transportation capabilities and systematic hydrogen logistics business.

The exhibition also focuses on hydrogen mobility solutions, featuring Hyundai Motor’s XCIENT Fuel Cell truck and the mobile fuel cell generator used in Electric Touring Car Racing (ETCR) competitions. Additionally, the hydrogen fuel cell tram, which contributes to environmentally friendly public transportation, is showcased.

In the software-defined mobility domain, Hyundai Motor presents its transition towards a ‘Software-defined Everything’ (SDx) ecosystem. The company displays its SDV Electrical/Electronic (E/E) Architecture, showcasing the operational framework for autonomous driving. The High-Performance Vehicle Computer (HPVC) and SDV operating system are pivotal in enhancing the vehicle’s performance, safety, and convenience.

The Group’s future mobility concepts, DICE, SPACE, and CITY POD, envision a human-centered approach to personal, public, and logistics mobility. DICE offers a personalized digital experience during transportation, SPACE provides customized spatial experiences, and CITY POD introduces an unmanned large-scale mobility system for efficient logistics.

Finally, Hyundai Motor also exhibits ‘Stretch’, an innovative logistics loading and unloading robot developed by Boston Dynamics, demonstrating the company’s commitment to efficient and safer logistics operations.

Through this expansive display at CES 2024, Hyundai Motor Company not only redefines its role in mobility but also emphasizes its dedication to innovating a human-centered life, marking a significant step towards the realization of a hydrogen-powered future.
