From 2001 to 2026: Maruti Suzuki True Value Reaches 65 Lakh Used Car Sales Milestone

New Delhi: Maruti Suzuki India Limited has marked 25 years of its pre-owned car business, True Value, reporting 65 lakh vehicle sales since its inception in 2001. The milestone comes as the country’s used-car market continues to evolve, with organised retail networks, vehicle certification and digital financing playing an increasingly important role in the buying experience.

Launched in 2001, Maruti Suzuki True Value (MSTV) was established to bring a structured approach to India’s largely fragmented pre-owned car market. Over the past quarter-century, the business has introduced standardised vehicle evaluations, certification procedures and warranty support aimed at improving transparency and customer confidence.

Today, True Value operates through 662 outlets across 338 cities, serving customers looking to purchase or sell pre-owned vehicles.

Maruti Suzuki True Value Focuses on Transparency and Vehicle Certification

One of the central elements of True Value’s business model is its vehicle evaluation and certification process, designed to provide customers with greater information about a car’s condition and history before purchase.

According to Maruti Suzuki, vehicles offered through True Value undergo structured evaluations, including verification of documentation and service records. The company also provides warranty support on eligible pre-owned vehicles, addressing some of the uncertainties traditionally associated with buying a used car.

For sellers, True Value offers technology-enabled vehicle assessments and market-based valuations, with the company emphasising transparency throughout the transaction process.

The retail experience has also evolved over the years. True Value outlets now incorporate digital services and showroom facilities intended to offer an experience comparable to purchasing a new vehicle.

After all, a car may have had a previous owner, but buyers would still prefer fewer surprises about its past.

Younger First-Time Buyers Emerging as an Important Customer Group

Commenting on the milestone, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said:

“For 25 years, Maruti Suzuki True Value has worked towards making pre-owned car ownership more trusted, transparent and accessible for customers.”

Banerjee highlighted the company’s efforts to adapt its services to changing customer expectations, including the growing importance of younger and first-time car buyers.

He also noted that True Value’s network of 662 outlets across 338 cities has helped the company establish a broader ecosystem for both buyers and sellers.

According to the company, the proportion of young first-time buyers among True Value customers has been increasing, indicating changing attitudes towards pre-owned vehicle ownership.

For many aspiring motorists, a used car offers an alternative route to personal mobility, particularly when purchasing a new vehicle may involve a higher initial financial commitment.

Digital Financing Becomes an Important Part of Used-Car Purchases

Financing is another area receiving increasing attention within Maruti Suzuki’s pre-owned car operations.

The company reports that a growing number of True Value purchases are being financed, reflecting the importance of accessible credit in the used-car market.

Through Maruti Suzuki Smart Finance, True Value customers can explore financing options offered by participating public and private sector banks and Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs).

The platform provides an end-to-end digital financing process, allowing customers to compare available options and complete various stages of their vehicle financing journey online.

By integrating financing with vehicle evaluation, certification and retail services, Maruti Suzuki aims to simplify a purchasing process that has traditionally involved multiple intermediaries.

Twenty-Five Years of Organised Pre-Owned Car Retail

Since its establishment in 2001, True Value has played a role in bringing organised retail practices to India’s pre-owned vehicle market.

Its approach to vehicle inspections, documentation verification, certification and warranty support reflects the broader shift towards greater transparency in used-car transactions.

The company’s nationwide retail network also provides an established channel for customers who prefer purchasing a pre-owned vehicle through an organised dealership rather than directly from an individual seller.

However, vehicle condition, pricing, financing costs and after-sales support remain important considerations for customers, regardless of where they purchase their cars.

With 25 years of operations and 65 lakh reported vehicle sales, Maruti Suzuki True Value’s milestone illustrates the evolution of India’s pre-owned car business from largely informal transactions towards more structured retail experiences.

As younger buyers enter the market and digital services become more deeply integrated into vehicle purchases, the next phase of growth is likely to depend not simply on selling more used cars, but on making their quality, history and ownership costs easier for customers to understand.
