Mercedes-Benz Electric GLC Records 650+ Pre-Launch EOIs in 36 Hours; India Debut on November 4

Pune: Mercedes-Benz India has received more than 650 Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for its upcoming all-electric GLC SUV within just 36 hours of opening registrations on October 5, 2026. The strong pre-launch response comes ahead of the vehicle’s official India debut on November 4, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in mid-November.

The German luxury carmaker confirmed that the GLC 400 4MATIC will be locally manufactured at its Chakan facility near Pune, marking an important step in the company’s electric vehicle strategy for the Indian market.

Although the SUV has yet to make its official Indian debut, the initial response suggests considerable interest among luxury car buyers. However, the 650-plus figure represents Expressions of Interest rather than necessarily confirmed retail sales.

Mercedes-Benz Sees Strong Demand Before Official Launch

The Expressions of Interest programme began on October 5 and attracted more than 650 registrations within its first 36 hours, according to Mercedes-Benz India.

The company described the response as a record for the upcoming model and said registrations would remain open for subsequent batches of vehicles.

Brendon Sissing, Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Mercedes-Benz India, said:

“650+ bookings in just 36 hours of opening of EOI, even before market launch, paves the way for Electric GLC becoming one of the most successful Mercedes-Benz in India at launch. This exceptional customer response underscores the strength of our brand, unmatched desirability of our products, and Mercedes Benz’s pivotal role in shaping the future of luxury electric mobility in the country.”

The early interest offers an encouraging indication for Mercedes-Benz as it prepares to introduce its next-generation electric SUV to Indian customers. Whether that enthusiasm translates into sustained sales will become clearer once the vehicle officially enters the market.

Electric GLC 400 4Matic to Be Manufactured in India

One of the most significant aspects of the upcoming Electric GLC is its local production.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the GLC 400 4Matic will be manufactured at its Chakan facility, making it the company’s first locally produced SUV based on its new-generation electric architecture.

The decision underlines India’s importance in Mercedes-Benz’s broader electric mobility plans and brings the brand’s latest electric vehicle technology into its domestic manufacturing operations.

The Electric GLC builds upon the established reputation of the conventional GLC, one of Mercedes-Benz’s globally successful luxury SUV nameplates.

The new electric model combines the GLC’s familiar emphasis on comfort, practicality and refinement with a dedicated electric-drive system and advanced digital technologies.

For buyers, the proposition is straightforward: the familiarity of a luxury SUV, now with an electric powertrain. The challenge for Mercedes-Benz will be ensuring that the ownership experience is as convincing as the initial interest.

India Debut on November 4, Deliveries from Mid-November

The all-new Electric GLC, which has received the German Premium Car of the Year 2026 recognition, will make its official Indian debut on November 4, 2026.

Mercedes-Benz has indicated that customer deliveries will begin from mid-November, shortly after the vehicle’s introduction.

The company will continue accepting Expressions of Interest for subsequent batches through its authorised franchise partners and official Indian website.

Customers who have already registered will receive updates regarding their order status and indicative delivery timelines.

This communication process is intended to provide buyers with greater clarity about vehicle availability and the expected delivery schedule.

Electric GLC Strengthens Mercedes-Benz’s EV Strategy in India

The Electric GLC represents another step in Mercedes-Benz India’s efforts to expand its luxury electric vehicle portfolio.

According to the manufacturer, growing interest in electric models reflects changing preferences among premium car buyers, particularly those seeking alternatives to conventional internal combustion vehicles without compromising comfort, technology or everyday usability.

The locally manufactured SUV could also play an important role in demonstrating how Mercedes-Benz intends to combine global electric vehicle development with production in India.

While its initial registration numbers indicate promising demand, the vehicle’s longer-term success will depend on factors including pricing, product positioning, customer deliveries and the overall ownership experience.

With more than 650 Expressions of Interest recorded before its official debut, the Electric GLC has made an encouraging start. Its arrival in November will provide a clearer indication of how quickly India’s luxury SUV buyers are prepared to embrace the transition to electric mobility.
