Amsterdam: Green SM has begun pilot operations in the Netherlands, making the country its eighth market globally and its second in Europe after Denmark as the electric mobility company continues its international expansion.
The company held a technical opening event on September 25 and will initially operate in selected districts of Amsterdam while building its driver network, testing operational processes and establishing service standards ahead of a broader commercial rollout.
Green SM will first offer services in Amsterdam’s Centrum, West and Zuid districts. Operations are expected to gradually expand into Oost, Noord, Nieuw-West and Zuidoost, with the longer-term aim of covering the wider city.
The pilot period will also be used to collect feedback from customers and drivers and to refine service delivery, operational processes and the overall user experience before the company’s official launch in the Netherlands.
Driver recruitment forms key part of pilot
Alongside the service rollout, Green SM is focusing on recruiting drivers under what it calls its “Skilled Drivers – Bigger Opportunities” approach.
The company said it is seeking to build an experienced and service-oriented driver network and is offering different partnership models.
Under its employment policy, drivers may earn income of up to EUR 3,000 per month. Drivers choosing the vehicle rental operating model may receive revenue sharing of up to 85%, according to the company.
The first group of drivers joining Green SM in the Netherlands will also be eligible for a joining bonus of up to EUR 600, along with additional benefits intended for early participants in the network.
Green SM said the recruitment programme is aimed at creating a professional driver base that meets its standards for vehicle condition, safety and service quality.
Introductory discount for customers
To support the pilot, Green SM is offering customers a 50% discount on each trip, capped at EUR 30 per ride.
The promotional offer can be used up to 10 times per customer, giving early users a reduced-cost opportunity to try the company’s electric taxi service.
Mr. Richard Nabil Chahine, CEO of Green SM Europe, said: “The Netherlands is an important next step in Green SM’s journey in Europe. At this stage, our priority is not simply to put the service into operation, but more importantly to build a strong foundation for a high-quality service, from selecting and supporting our driver network to ensuring a consistent customer experience. We look forward to listening to our customers, learning from the Dutch market and gradually building Green SM into a trusted electric mobility option, offering high-quality experiences at competitive prices.”
Netherlands becomes Green SM’s second European market
The Netherlands has a well-developed electric mobility ecosystem, making it a significant test market for Green SM as it attempts to establish its business model in Europe.
The company said it plans to combine a trained driver network with a modern all-electric fleet, while positioning the service as an additional mobility option for residents and visitors.
During the pilot, Green SM will be closely watching how Dutch customers respond to service quality, pricing and the overall electric taxi experience — the sort of details that tend to matter rather more once the ribbon-cutting is over.
The Netherlands expansion follows Green SM’s entry into Denmark and forms part of a broader international growth strategy.
Green SM entered its first market, Vietnam, in 2023 and has since expanded across markets in Asia and Europe. The company says it is adapting its electric mobility model to the operating conditions and customer expectations of each market.
The Netherlands pilot will now serve as another test of that strategy, giving Green SM the opportunity to fine-tune its service before committing to wider coverage in Amsterdam and potentially building a larger presence in the European mobility market.
