New Delhi: Tata.Cars has launched the all-new Tata Aeris in India, positioning the compact sedan exclusively for private customers rather than fleet operators. Introductory prices start at ₹5.29 lakh for the petrol version and ₹6.29 lakh for the iCNG model, with manual and AMT transmission options offered across the powertrain line-up.
Bookings for the Aeris are now open at Tata.Cars dealerships across India. The company did not specify a delivery commencement date in the announcement.
The Aeris marks a deliberate attempt by Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles to separate private compact-sedan customers from the fleet market. The company said the model has been developed around personal and family use, with greater emphasis on styling, cabin features, connectivity, comfort and safety.
Tata.Cars said the Aeris will not be offered in the fleet segment. The company’s commercial and fleet requirements will instead continue to be served through its dedicated Xpres-T brand, which carries a separate design and product identity.
According to the company, personal buyers account for nearly 65% of the compact-sedan segment, despite many vehicles in the category traditionally having to accommodate the differing requirements of both individual customers and fleet operators.
Fleet buyers typically place greater emphasis on operating costs, durability and vehicle uptime, while private customers may also prioritise styling, equipment and technology. Tata is betting that keeping the two camps separate will give the Aeris a clearer identity.

Exterior Gets LED Lighting and Dual-Tone Treatment
The Aeris adopts a wide stance with signature LED headlamps and daytime running lights, along with a broad lower grille and diamond-cut aero alloy wheels.
At the rear, the sedan features Infinity Connected LED Tail Lamps and a prominent deck lid intended to emphasise its three-box silhouette.
Other exterior elements include a dual-tone black roof, Cosmo Grain textured wheel-arch cladding and chrome-line door handles.
The approach suggests Tata is trying to move the compact sedan beyond its familiar reputation as an overwhelmingly practical purchase — useful, certainly, but not always the part of the parking lot people turn around to admire.
Dual Screens, Ventilated Seats and 419-Litre Boot
Inside, the Aeris gets AeroLux ventilated leatherette seats and what Tata calls an OpenView dashboard.
The cabin features dual digital displays, comprising a 26.03cm HD touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.7cm Digital Island Cluster.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with Tata’s iRA connected-car technology offering more than 35 connected functions.
The equipment list also includes a Dual Smartphone Deck with wireless charging, automatic climate control, rear AC vents and 65W Type-C fast-charging ports.
Boot capacity stands at 419 litres.
Six Airbags Standard
Tata says the Aeris has been engineered around its Passenger Vehicles Safety Dome and makes use of Ultra High Strength Steel with an emphasis on 360-degree impact protection.
Six airbags are standard.
Electronic Stability Program, ABS with EBD and Corner Stability Control, Hill Hold Control and ISOFIX child-seat anchors are also part of the safety package.
Driver-assistance and visibility equipment includes a Blind View Monitor, MultiView Digital Video Recorder and a 360-degree SVS HD camera capable of displaying multiple 2D and 3D views.
Automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, a rear defogger and enhanced rear-impact protection are also offered.
Tata says iCNG versions receive additional protection measures including gas-leak detection, advanced leak-proof materials, thermal incident protection and rear-crash protection.
Petrol and iCNG Powertrains With Manual and AMT Options
The Tata Aeris is available with petrol and CNG powertrains.
Its 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine can be paired with either a five-speed manual gearbox or an automated manual transmission.
Tata has not disclosed power and torque figures in the launch announcement provided.
The iCNG version is also offered with an AMT, combining CNG operation with an automatic transmission — an increasingly useful combination for buyers who want lower running costs without adding a clutch pedal to urban traffic.
The CNG model uses Tata’s twin-cylinder iCNG arrangement, designed to package the gas storage system while retaining more usable luggage space than a conventional single-cylinder setup.
A Compact Sedan Built Away From the Fleet Market
The Aeris enters the market with an unusually explicit distinction: Tata says it will remain a private-buyer model and will never be introduced into the fleet segment.
That strategy allows the company to position Aeris around design, technology and individual ownership while leaving the Xpres-T range to handle commercial requirements.
For Tata, the launch is therefore about more than introducing another compact sedan. Aeris represents an attempt to give personal buyers a product developed without the compromises that can come from serving fleet and private customers with the same vehicle.
Whether that distinction becomes an important purchasing factor will ultimately depend on how buyers respond, but the Aeris gives Tata a clearly defined new proposition in a segment still valued for its combination of affordability, cabin space, efficiency and the traditional practicality of a separate boot.
