Gurugram: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has opened bookings for the Hyundai Bayon in India, marking the arrival of a new 4.2-metre SUV equipped with an in-built generative AI voice assistant, petrol powertrain and manual as well as Intelligent Variable Transmission options.
Customers can book the upcoming Hyundai Bayon for an initial amount of ₹11,000 through Hyundai India’s official website or at authorised Hyundai dealerships across the country. The company said the SUV will arrive during the festive season, while delivery timelines will be announced at the time of launch.
Hyundai describes the Bayon as an “Intelligent Utility Vehicle”, positioning technology, safety, comfort, performance and styling as the five principal elements of the new model.
One of its headline features is an in-built generative AI voice assistant, designed to allow more natural interactions between the driver and vehicle. Hyundai says the technology forms part of its broader “Intelligence That Moves” philosophy and is intended to combine connected convenience with a more intuitive driving experience.
Announcing the opening of bookings, Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said, “At Hyundai Motor India, we continuously strive to redefine mobility experiences through meaningful innovation. The Hyundai Bayon embodies our vision of intelligent mobility by seamlessly integrating advanced technology, futuristic design and comprehensive safety into a compelling SUV package. Hyundai Bayon has been developed for new-age Indian customers who seek more from their vehicles: more intelligence, more comfort, more confidence and more style. Hyundai Bayon introduces a new dimension of human-centric technology and unlocks a truly intuitive mobility experience. We are confident that Hyundai Bayon will set new benchmarks and resonate strongly with modern Indian consumers.”
Hyundai Bayon Design
The Bayon adopts a contemporary SUV design with a sculpted bonnet, futuristic front fascia and Hyundai’s signature H-Edge LED daytime running lamps.
Its SUV proportions are accentuated by geometric wheel arches, wrap-around door cladding and bridge-type roof rails. Hyundai says the exterior has been designed to convey a sense of movement from the side profile through to the rear.
At 4.2 metres in length, the Bayon sits in a size bracket intended to balance road presence with everyday manoeuvrability. Hyundai also claims the cabin has been designed to provide generous legroom, headroom and shoulder room through efficient use of interior space.
The dimensions should make it relatively manageable in urban environments, where every extra centimetre can occasionally feel like a negotiation with traffic.
Platform and Safety
The Hyundai Bayon is based on the company’s Global K Enhanced Platform, which Hyundai says has been engineered for 5-star Indian safety standards.
The manufacturer has highlighted occupant protection, structural rigidity and advanced safety engineering as key areas of development. Hyundai has not yet released a complete list of safety equipment for the India-spec Bayon in the information announced with the opening of bookings.
The 5-star reference relates to Hyundai’s engineering target rather than a crash-test result disclosed in the booking announcement.
Petrol Engine With Manual and IVT Options
Hyundai has confirmed that the Bayon will use a petrol powertrain and will be offered with both a manual gearbox and the company’s Intelligent Variable Transmission, or IVT.
Detailed engine specifications, including displacement, power, torque and claimed fuel efficiency, have not yet been announced.
Hyundai says the powertrain has been engineered to offer a balance of refinement, responsiveness and fuel efficiency, with the manual and IVT options aimed at customers with different driving preferences.
Focus on Connected Technology
The generative AI-powered voice assistant is expected to be one of the Bayon’s major technology differentiators.
According to Hyundai, the system is designed to make interactions between occupants and the vehicle more conversational and intuitive, although the company has not yet disclosed the complete range of commands, supported functions or connected services that will be available at launch.
Beyond the voice assistant, Hyundai says the Bayon’s broader package will focus on convenience, comfort and connected mobility.
Hyundai Bayon India Launch and Booking Details
Bookings are currently open for ₹11,000 through Hyundai’s official website, hyundai.co.in, and authorised dealerships nationwide.
The Bayon is scheduled to reach the Indian market during the festive season. Hyundai is expected to disclose prices, variant-wise features, complete powertrain specifications and delivery details closer to the formal launch.
With the Bayon, Hyundai is placing artificial intelligence and connected technology at the centre of its latest SUV proposition for India. Its eventual impact, however, will depend not merely on how fluently the car can hold a conversation, but on the more traditional questions buyers still ask: how it drives, how much it costs and how much equipment they get for their money.
