India Takes Larger Daimler Truck Role as DICV Leads 42-Country ISEAA Customer Region

Hanover, Germany/Chennai: Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), the maker of BharatBenz trucks and buses, has taken on a larger regional role within Daimler Truck as India becomes the anchor of the newly structured ISEAA customer region covering India, South-East Asia and Australia-Pacific.

Announced at IAA Transportation 2026, the move places DICV at the centre of a 42-country regional framework representing nearly 2.8 billion people. The company also reiterated plans for an additional investment of approximately ₹4,000 crore in Tamil Nadu, which would take its cumulative investment in India to more than ₹14,500 crore.

The expansion comes as DICV prepares the next phase of BharatBenz’s development in India, including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), wider adoption of Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) technology, an expanded service network and further investment in manufacturing and research capabilities.

India becomes anchor for ISEAA region

Mercedes-Benz Trucks, one of Daimler Truck’s global key segments, comprises the Mercedes-Benz Trucks and BharatBenz brands. BharatBenz serves the Indian market through DICV, while Mercedes-Benz Trucks operates across South-East Asia, Australia-Pacific and several other international markets.

Under Daimler Truck’s new operating structure, the Mercedes-Benz Trucks segment has been divided into four customer regions: Europe, LAMEA — Latin America, Middle East and Africa — China, and ISEAA, which covers India, South-East Asia and Australia-Pacific.

Markets within ISEAA that were previously managed separately will now operate within a single customer-focused structure.

DICV will serve as the anchor entity for the region, reinforcing India’s position as a manufacturing, engineering and export base for Daimler Truck.

Since beginning operations, DICV has exported more than 75,000 trucks and buses and over 330 million parts to more than 70 markets worldwide. Its Chennai facility also supplies medium-duty transmissions to Daimler Truck plants in Germany.

Commercial vehicle demand across the ISEAA region is expected to grow by more than 5% annually, according to the company, making the region an important part of Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ long-term growth strategy.

The regional setup is intended to allow closer customer engagement, quicker decision-making and greater sharing of engineering and manufacturing capabilities between markets.

Torsten Schmidt, CEO & Managing Director, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles and President Mercedes-Benz Trucks Customer Region ISEAA, said:

“India has long been an important market for Daimler Truck and the home of BharatBenz. Through the new ISEAA customer region, we are bringing India, South-East Asia and Australia-Pacific closer together to strengthen collaboration, share capabilities and respond faster to customer needs across these markets. DICV serves as the anchor entity for the region, building on its established strengths in manufacturing, engineering and exports. For our customers in India, BharatBenz remains focused on delivering products and services designed specifically for local operating conditions, while benefiting from the scale, expertise and collaboration of the broader Mercedes-Benz Trucks segment.”

BharatBenz prepares for ADAS and wider AMT adoption

Alongside the organisational changes, DICV said it is accelerating BharatBenz’s product transformation programme with a focus on safety, productivity and operating efficiency.

The company is preparing its truck and bus portfolio for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems calibrated specifically for Indian driving and operating conditions.

The move is designed to position BharatBenz ahead of forthcoming safety requirements while introducing additional active-safety technologies across its commercial vehicle range.

DICV is also looking to expand the availability of its Torqshift Automated Manual Transmission technology.

BharatBenz has already introduced HX and Torqshift products in the construction and mining segments. The transmission technology, used in hundreds of thousands of Daimler Truck heavy-duty vehicles globally, has been adapted for Indian duty cycles.

According to DICV, AMT systems can improve driver comfort, reduce fatigue and help fleets operate more efficiently while contributing to a lower Total Cost of Ownership.

For fleet operators, removing some of the repeated clutch-and-gear work from demanding commercial routes is not merely a matter of convenience; over a long shift, it can become a productivity issue too.

BharatBenz service network to reach 600 touchpoints

DICV is also expanding its customer-support infrastructure as it looks to improve vehicle uptime and lifecycle performance.

BharatBenz’s TruckConnect digital fleet management platform allows operators to monitor vehicle performance and use connected data for fleet management and operational planning.

The company’s Rakshana service assurance programme currently services and delivers more than 98% of vehicles within 48 hours, DICV said.

Its nationwide service network, currently comprising 430 touchpoints, is planned to expand to 600 locations by 2030.

Much of the expansion will focus on northern, eastern and north-eastern India, where the company intends to improve service reach, parts availability and response times.

The broader strategy combines physical service expansion with connected-vehicle technologies and uptime-focused support — increasingly important considerations in an industry where an idle truck can quickly become an expensive piece of parking.

Additional ₹4,000 crore planned for Tamil Nadu

DICV’s enlarged regional responsibilities will be accompanied by further investment in its Indian operations.

The company recently announced an additional investment of approximately ₹4,000 crore in Tamil Nadu under a non-binding facilitation Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Tamil Nadu.

The proposed investment is aimed at expanding manufacturing capacity, strengthening research and development infrastructure and supporting future technologies.

Once implemented, it would take DICV’s total investment in India to more than ₹14,500 crore.

DICV currently operates with 92% localisation and works with more than 400 local suppliers.

The high localisation level gives the company a substantial domestic supply base while also supporting product development for both Indian and overseas markets.

India’s elevation within Daimler Truck’s regional structure therefore goes beyond a change on the organisational chart. With manufacturing, engineering, exports and product development increasingly linked from Chennai to markets across Asia-Pacific, DICV’s next phase could further strengthen India’s role in Daimler Truck’s wider commercial vehicle operations while BharatBenz continues adapting its products and customer support to the demands of the domestic market.
