NEW DELHI: Kia India has introduced a 15-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty on the high-voltage battery of the Carens Clavis EV for eligible first owners, in a move aimed at addressing one of the biggest long-term concerns associated with electric vehicle ownership — battery durability and replacement costs.
The company is describing the programme as a “Lifetime High Voltage Battery Warranty”. It applies to new Carens Clavis EVs retailed from August 1, 2026 onwards and covers the high-voltage battery for 15 years with unlimited kilometres, provided the vehicle remains with its first owner.
Commercial vehicles, including taxis and fleet vehicles, are excluded from the lifetime warranty.
For second owners and commercial vehicles, the high-voltage battery warranty remains eight years or 1,60,000 km, whichever comes earlier.
Kia has also opened the extended warranty programme to eligible existing Carens Clavis EV customers who purchased their vehicles before August 1, 2026.
Such customers can upgrade their existing eight-year/1,60,000 km high-voltage battery warranty to 15 years with unlimited kilometres, subject to the programme’s terms and conditions and a vehicle evaluation.
The optional extension carries an administrative fee of ₹3,400, inclusive of taxes, payable to Kia dealers.
Battery longevity remains an important consideration for prospective EV buyers, particularly because the high-voltage battery is among the most expensive components in an electric vehicle. By extending warranty coverage well beyond the conventional ownership period, Kia is seeking to reduce uncertainty surrounding battery degradation and potential replacement costs.

The announcement adds another layer to Kia India’s ownership package for the Carens Clavis EV. The company also offers a Battery-as-a-Service, or BaaS, programme, under which the vehicle and battery can be financed separately in an effort to reduce the initial purchase cost.
Kia is also expanding its charging and after-sales infrastructure around its electric vehicles.
Its K-Charge network, accessible through the MyKia app and Kia India website, brings together more than 20,300 charging points operated by 23 Charge Point Operators. Customers can use the platform to locate charging stations, navigate to them and make payments through a unified wallet.
The company says more than 129 Kia dealerships are equipped with high-capacity DC fast chargers, while over 275 workshops are EV-ready. Kia India’s broader service network currently includes more than 900 customer touchpoints across 400 cities.
The Carens Clavis EV is Kia India’s first made-in-India electric vehicle and is based on the Carens platform, combining a family-focused MPV layout with an electric drivetrain.
Kia said the model has received an encouraging response since launch, although the company did not provide sales figures in the announcement.
The new warranty programme highlights how EV manufacturers are increasingly looking beyond range and charging speed to address another question buyers tend to keep for much longer: what happens to the battery years down the road. A 15-year warranty does not quite make battery anxiety disappear by magic, but longer protection could make that conversation considerably less uncomfortable for prospective EV owners.
