Hanoi: VinFast delivered 20,161 electric vehicles in Vietnam in August 2026, taking its cumulative sales for the first eight months of the year to 154,073 units, the Vietnamese automaker announced on Friday.
The company said August deliveries remained above 20,000 units even though the month coincided with the seventh lunar month, traditionally regarded as a slower period for major purchases and other significant commitments in Vietnam.
The compact VF 3 remained VinFast’s highest-selling model during the month, with 6,453 units delivered. Its cumulative deliveries reached 35,798 units between January and August 2026.
The VF 5, including the Herio Green version, followed with 4,265 deliveries in August, taking its year-to-date total to 27,948 units.
VinFast’s seven-seat Limo Green electric MPV was close behind, recording 4,203 deliveries during the month. Its cumulative 2026 sales stood at 34,991 units.
Other models contributed smaller but still significant volumes. The VF 6 registered 1,256 deliveries in August, while the VF 8 accounted for 834 units. VinFast also delivered 698 units of the Minio Green and 695 units of the VF 7 during the month.
Year-to-date deliveries of the VF 6 and VF 7 stood at 15,943 units and 7,820 units, respectively, according to the company.
The August numbers underline how rapidly battery-electric vehicles are becoming part of Vietnam’s mainstream car market. Even a month associated with cautious consumer spending appears to have done little to unplug demand.
Duong Thi Thu Trang, Deputy CEO of Global Automotive Sales at VinFast, said: “Vietnam is currently one of the world’s fastest-growing electric vehicle markets, with EV penetration continuing to increase in recent years. VinFast’s strong performance, with 20,161 vehicles delivered in August – a period considered a low season for the market as it coincides with the seventh lunar month (traditionally known as ‘Ghost Month’) – is the clearest testament to this trend. With strong support from consumers, coupled with our delivery plans and the launch of new vehicle lines in the final four months of the year, I am confident that VinFast will soon surpass the sales record we established in 2025 and set new milestones in Vietnam’s automotive market.”
VinFast said it has remained Vietnam’s No. 1 automaker since September 2024, maintaining the position for 24 consecutive months.
The company sold 175,099 vehicles in Vietnam in 2025, which it says is the highest annual sales volume recorded by an automotive brand in the country.
With four months remaining in 2026, VinFast would need to sell just over 21,000 additional vehicles to exceed its 2025 total, based on the sales figures released by the company.
The automaker is also preparing to accelerate deliveries of two upcoming models — the next-generation VF 8 and the VF 2 — while additional products are planned for introduction during 2026.
VinFast said buyers of its current electric vehicle range will continue to receive complimentary charging at V-Green charging stations until February 10, 2029. Promotional schemes are also being offered on selected models.
VinFast’s August performance comes as Vietnam’s automotive market undergoes a wider shift towards electrification. The company’s ability to sustain deliveries above 20,000 units during a traditionally softer month suggests that EV demand is moving beyond early adopters and becoming increasingly important to the country’s broader passenger vehicle market.
