Ashok Leyland has launched what it describes as India’s first range of trucks equipped with air suspension, introducing three new heavy-duty models aimed at improving payload capacity, ride comfort and operating efficiency for commercial vehicle customers.
The company, the Indian flagship of the Hinduja Group, said the new range includes the AVTR 4925 10×2 MAV, the AVTR 4625 10×2 MAV and the AVTR 4525 8×2 MAV. According to Ashok Leyland, these are India’s first 49-tonne, 46-tonne and 45-tonne trucks with air suspension, respectively.
The AVTR 4925 10×2 MAV offers a claimed payload advantage of 1.5 tonnes, while the AVTR 4625 10×2 MAV and AVTR 4525 8×2 MAV each offer a claimed payload advantage of 4 tonnes. In the trucking business, where every kilogram eventually meets a calculator, those numbers are likely to draw close attention from fleet operators.
Ashok Leyland said the trucks have been designed to deliver better productivity, improved comfort and stronger value for customers, with what it called a nominal impact on initial investment. The company said the new range is intended to improve vehicle performance, load handling and operating efficiency, while offering one of the stronger total cost of ownership propositions in the industry.

Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director & CEO, Ashok Leyland, said, ” Ashok Leyland has always been a technology leader in the Indian CV industry. Since our inception we have been known for introducing technology solutions that create meaningful value for customers. With the launch of the new Air Suspension technology in trucks, we are reinforcing that position. These new trucks offer best in class payload capability, improved comfort, and better performance, helping our customers improve productivity and profitability.”
The air suspension system is designed to improve vehicle stability in laden conditions and reduce vibrations and shocks. Ashok Leyland said the system also offers superior ride comfort, particularly on roads with repeated undulations, while contributing to improved tyre life.
Sanjeev Kumar, President MHCV, Ashok Leyland, said, “Customers today are looking for vehicles that provide better efficiency, reliability, and value throughout their operations. Our new air suspension range has been developed keeping these requirements in mind. With benefits such as improved vehicle stability, reduced vibrations, superior ride comfort, and improved tyre life, these trucks are designed to deliver a better ownership experience for customers.”
The company said the rear suspension system requires no greasing, enabling maintenance-free operations in that area. It added that improved tyre life and reduced vibrations are expected to strengthen the overall economics of ownership for customers.
The new air suspension range will be available in both cowl and cabin options, with multiple loading span choices. This gives customers flexibility to configure the trucks according to operational needs across different applications.
Ashok Leyland has also equipped the trucks with iVAC, or Intelligent Vehicle Acceleration Control, and ATC, or Automatic Traction Control, as standard features. The company said these systems are intended to support higher fuel efficiency and improved traction across different terrains.
The launch adds to Ashok Leyland’s efforts to position itself as a technology-led manufacturer in India’s commercial vehicle market, where fleet owners increasingly weigh upfront costs against fuel efficiency, payload capacity, maintenance needs and vehicle uptime.
With higher payload capability and air suspension technology now entering heavier truck categories, the development signals a broader shift in India’s commercial vehicle industry: productivity is no longer just about carrying more, but carrying more comfortably, efficiently and with fewer headaches along the way.
