Gurugram: In what can only be described as the ultimate gym session for an SUV, JSW MG Motor India has announced that its upcoming flagship, the MG Majestor, has entered the record books—by pulling something significantly heavier than your weekend luggage.
The soon-to-be-launched MG Majestor has officially set a new Guinness World Records title for the “Heaviest Train Pulled by a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) on Rail.” And no, this wasn’t a light warm-up—it involved towing a staggering 406.4-tonne train over a distance of 300 feet on an operational railway track in Jammu and Kashmir.
The record attempt took place on a secured rail section between Kakapora and Awantipora stations, comfortably surpassing the previous qualifying benchmarks of 400 tonnes over 100 feet. In simple terms, MG didn’t just break the record—it towed it into a new league.
What makes this feat even more impressive is that the Majestor used for the attempt was a standard production model. No hidden tricks, no engineering wizardry behind the scenes—just pure SUV muscle doing its thing. The vehicle’s 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine churns out 215.5 PS and 478.5 Nm of torque, delivering the kind of pulling power that, apparently, now includes trains.
To ensure everything was by the book, the attempt was closely monitored by independent automotive and motorsport experts. Strict conditions were maintained—no external assistance, no propulsion from the train itself, and complete control by the SUV throughout the pull. The train, featuring a WAG-9HC locomotive along with passenger and guard coaches, was independently verified to weigh over 406 tonnes.
Commenting on the achievement, Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director of JSW MG Motor India, stated that the record reflects the brand’s focus on combining strength, precision, and control—even under extreme conditions. In other words, the Majestor isn’t just flexing; it’s making a statement.
Positioned as India’s first D+ segment SUV, the MG Majestor is clearly aiming to redefine expectations. Beyond its record-breaking party trick, the SUV packs serious off-road credentials, including triple differential locks, an advanced 4WD system with 10 terrain modes, crawl control, 219 mm ground clearance, and an impressive 810 mm water-wading capability. It also brings Level 2 ADAS into the mix, ensuring that brains match the brawn.
Pre-reservations for the MG Majestor are now open at ₹41,000, with the first 3,000 customers eligible for MG’s “Complete Peace-of-Mind” package. This includes a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, 5-year roadside assistance, and five labour-free services—because after pulling trains, regular service should feel like a day off.
As India’s SUV market continues to evolve, MG’s latest stunt-turned-achievement may just set a new benchmark—not just for capability, but for how far automakers are willing to go (or pull) to prove a point.
