Mahindra Auto Starts 2026 in Top Gear with 1.04 Lakh Vehicle Sales, SUVs Lead the Charge

Mumbai: Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.), one of India’s leading automotive powerhouses, has kicked off 2026 with a strong performance, clocking total auto sales of 104,309 vehicles in January, marking a healthy 24% year-on-year growth, including exports.

The real stars of the month were Mahindra’s ever-popular SUVs, which racked up 63,510 units in domestic sales, registering an impressive 25% growth. Clearly, India’s love affair with high-riding, road-dominating vehicles shows no signs of slowing down.

Not to be left behind, Mahindra’s Commercial Vehicles (LCV < 3.5T) segment also delivered a solid performance, with 27,656 units sold domestically, reflecting a 22% growth. From city logistics to last-mile delivery, Mahindra’s workhorses seem to be working overtime.

Commenting on the performance, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO – Automotive Division, M&M Ltd., said:

“Building on the strong momentum of last year’s performance, we began the year on a strong note in January by achieving SUV sales of 63,510 units, a growth of 25% and LCV < 3.5T sales of 27,656 units, a growth of 22%. The total vehicle sales stand at 104,309 units, a 24% year-on-year growth.”

But the real mic-drop moment came earlier in the month.

On 14th January, Mahindra opened bookings for its highly anticipated XUV7XO and XEV 9S, and within just 4 hours, the company recorded a jaw-dropping 93,689 bookings, translating into a massive ₹20,500 crore booking value. That’s not just strong demand — that’s a full-blown digital stampede.

In summary, Mahindra hasn’t just started 2026 on a good note — it’s started with a blockbuster opening weekend. With SUVs selling like hot samosas and new launches breaking online booking servers, the brand seems firmly in cruise control for another big year on Indian roads.
