From Runway to Road: Gaurav Gupta Dresses the MG Cyberster in Haute Couture

New Delhi: When fashion meets horsepower, the result is not just a collaboration—it’s a couture-powered concept car. Renowned designer Gaurav Gupta has partnered with MG Select to unveil a striking sculptural interpretation of the MG Cyberster, the world’s fastest MG, reimagined through the lenses of haute couture, contemporary art, and a healthy dose of creative audacity.

The avant-garde creation was revealed on January 17, 2026, at the launch of Gaurav Gupta’s first menswear flagship store at DLF Emporio, New Delhi—making the occasion a double celebration of style, speed, and serious visual drama. In a setting usually dominated by sharp suits and luxury handbags, the Cyberster arrived like a supermodel on wheels, reminding everyone that cars too can have couture moments.

At the centre of this collaboration is the MG Cyberster, a convertible sportscar that sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds. Its low-slung, futuristic stance already suggests movement and freedom, but under Gupta’s creative vision, the Cyberster evolves into a moving sculpture. Inspired by Art Nouveau and surrealism, the car’s form channels fluidity, organic motion, and even the contours of the human body—proving that aerodynamics and aesthetics can indeed be soulmates.

Conceptualised over six months, the project treats the car not as a machine, but as a canvas. A bespoke artwork flows across the Cyberster’s body, expressed through brocade patchwork, tonal gradients, and delicate zari embroidery—yes, actual embroidery on a sportscar. It’s probably the first time in history that a roadster has more handcrafted detailing than a wedding sherwani.

The highlight of the design is the custom embroidered hood featuring Gaurav Gupta’s iconic Serpent Infinity motif. First introduced at his Paris showcase Aarohanam, the symbol represents Kundalini energy, continuity, and infinite transformation. In simpler terms, the Cyberster now doesn’t just go fast—it also has spiritual alignment.

“I approached the car as I do couture, shaping it with movement and energy. The Serpent Infinity extends my creative narrative into a new medium,” said Gaurav Gupta. “Elements of traditional Indian embroidery and embellishment are reinterpreted for the automotive form, merging heritage craftsmanship with modern technology. Every surface and curve has a purpose.” In fashion language, this roughly translates to: even the speed lines have feelings.

Milind Shah, Interim Head – MG Select, JSW MG Motor India, echoed the sentiment, stating, “We see MG Select as a bridge between automotive engineering and contemporary lifestyle, where a car becomes part of a wider ecosystem of fashion, art and culture. The Cyberster represents a modern interpretation of the iconic roadster, and collaboration with Gaurav allows us to express that philosophy beyond the car itself, through form, materiality and emotion.” Or as onlookers might say: this is what happens when horsepower gets a stylist.

With this collaboration, MG and Gaurav Gupta have blurred the boundaries between runway and racetrack. The Cyberster may still be a high-performance electric roadster, but for one evening at least, it was also the best-dressed guest in the room—proving that in 2026, even supercars are expected to serve looks.
