Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Hits 2 Million Production Milestone — And Promises the Next Million Will Come Even Faster

Pune: Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has rolled out its 2 millionth vehicle from its India operations — a landmark that took 25 years, a lot of German discipline, and just the right amount of Indian ingenuity to achieve. And in classic SAVWIPL style, the last half-million cars were built in a mere 3.5 years, proving that the Group’s manufacturing plants in Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar have clearly mastered the art of speed without compromising precision.

The milestone reflects the Group’s sharp upward trajectory in India, with October 2025 emerging as its best-performing month in six years and the second-highest monthly sales ever. India isn’t just another market anymore — it’s fast becoming one of the strongest growth engines within the Volkswagen Group’s global network.

MQB-A0-IN: India’s Engineering Flex Muscles

Over 500,000 units of the India-developed MQB-A0-IN platform — powering the Škoda Kushaq, Slavia, Kylaq and Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus — have now been built locally. If the platform were a student, it would be topping its class while winning every extracurricular trophy.

The pace of production highlights one clear fact: Indian customers aren’t just buying these cars; they’re buying into the idea that “local can be world-class.”

Škoda, Volkswagen & Friends: All Brands, All Wins

It’s not just volume leaders doing the heavy lifting. The Group’s premium and luxury portfolio has been busy creating headlines of its own:

  • Škoda Auto India more than doubled its year-on-year performance, delivering 61,607 units in 10 months — its best run yet.
  • Volkswagen India celebrated a blockbuster Diwali, with the Virtus claiming over 40% share in 40 months in the premium sedan space.
  • Bentley India entered a new era under SAVWIPL, launching all-new showrooms in Mumbai and Bengaluru.
  • Porsche India added 4,400+ customers in six years, expanding to 13 retail points.
  • Audi saw the RS Q8 crowned Performance Car of the Year at the AutoX Awards 2025 and strengthened its EV roadmap with 6,500+ charging points under the Charge My Audi initiative.
  • Lamborghini India continued its bull run — delivering 113 cars in 2024, its best year yet — and completing its hybrid transition with the Temerario’s India launch.

In short, the Group is firing on all cylinders — petrol, electric, hybrid, and soon perhaps, pure enthusiasm.

2 Million Cars for India, 700,000 for the World

Exports remain a core pillar of SAVWIPL’s strategy. Over 700,000 vehicles made in India have found homes across Latin America, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. The message is clear: “Made in India, Driven by the World” isn’t a slogan — it’s an export strategy with serious horsepower.

Leadership Speaks — and Sets the Bar Higher

Piyush Arora, CEO & Managing Director of SAVWIPL, summed it up best:
“Every milestone we achieve in India reflects our belief in the country’s potential — not just as a market but as a driving force for future mobility. Indian customers are among the world’s most informed and discerning. Their trust drives us to build cars here with the same precision and quality the Group is known for globally.”

Translation: India is no longer just a base — it’s becoming a global benchmark.

What’s Next for SAVWIPL?

To stay future-ready, the Group is:

  • Deepening localisation across the value chain
  • Focusing aggressively on cost optimisation
  • Investing in people, technology, and market-specific innovation
  • Strengthening multi-brand synergy across mass, premium and luxury segments

Together, these initiatives aim to make SAVWIPL stronger, sharper, and more agile — the automotive equivalent of an athlete preparing for a marathon while training like a sprinter.

A Milestone That Means More Than a Number

Crossing 2 million locally produced vehicles isn’t just a manufacturing win. It signals India’s evolving role within the Volkswagen Group — not only as a major market but as a global powerhouse for engineering, production, exports, and future mobility.

If the first 2 million cars took 25 years, don’t be surprised if the next million arrives before your next model-year facelift.
