Guwahati – In a bold step towards environmental sustainability and the promotion of a circular economy, Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, today inaugurated its cutting-edge registered vehicle scrapping facility (RVSF) in Guwahati. Named “Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect,” the state-of-the-art facility is engineered to safely dismantle up to 15,000 end-of-life vehicles annually using sustainable, eco-friendly processes.
The launch event was graced by senior government officials and industry leaders. Among those in attendance were Shri. Jogen Mohan, Minister of Hill Areas Development, Transport, Co-operation, Indigenous and Tribal Faith & Culture; Shri. Ashok Singhal, Minister of Health, Family Welfare and Irrigation; Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors; and Dr. Sanjive Narain, Director of Axom Automobiles, along with other dignitaries from the Government of Assam and Tata Motors’ partner, Axom Platinum Scrappers.

A Vision for Economic and Environmental Growth
Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Jogen Mohan lauded the initiative as a dual catalyst for job creation and environmental protection. “The launch of this advanced vehicle recycling facility will not only generate valuable employment opportunities and bolster the economic growth of our state and communities, but it will also ensure the safe disposal of end-of-life vehicles, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to a cleaner environment. I thank Tata Motors for pioneering such smart initiatives in Assam,” he stated.
Minister Ashok Singhal echoed these sentiments, highlighting the facility’s role in fostering a greener future for the region. “The inauguration of Tata Motors’ Re.Wi.Re facility in Guwahati is a key step toward a cleaner, greener Assam. This modern facility will foster a sustainable vehicle disposal ecosystem, benefitting both our environment and our people,” he said.
Driving the Circular Economy
Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, emphasized the strategic significance of the new facility. “Today, with the launch of the Northeast’s first Re.Wi.Re facility in Guwahati, Tata Motors takes a major leap in advancing responsible vehicle scrapping in the region. By adhering to the principles of a circular economy, we are ensuring sustainable practices across our network of RVSFs. With facilities now in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, and Pune, our collective capacity stands at over 100,000 end-of-life vehicles annually. Our collaboration with Axom Platinum Scrappers underscores our commitment to environmental stewardship,” he explained.
State-of-the-Art Technology Meets Eco-Friendly Practices
The new facility boasts a fully digitized, paperless operation and employs both cell-type and line-type dismantling techniques to handle both passenger and commercial vehicles. Each vehicle is subjected to a meticulous dismantling process, with dedicated stations ensuring the safe removal of hazardous components—including tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, liquids, and gases—in strict accordance with the nation’s vehicle scrappage policy.
Tata Motors’ initiative to expand its network of RVSFs underscores the company’s leadership in integrating sustainable practices within the automotive industry. The Guwahati facility represents a significant milestone in promoting responsible recycling and waste management, aligning with broader governmental efforts to drive environmental sustainability.
As Tata Motors continues to push the envelope in sustainable vehicle management, the launch of the Re.Wi.Re facility in Guwahati sets a precedent for the future of vehicle recycling in the Northeast—paving the way for cleaner air, safer communities, and a robust circular economy.
