Highways Get Smarter: NHAI Rolls Out ‘Rajmarg Saathi’ for Safer Roads and Seamless Travel

New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to redefine highway safety and patrol standards with the introduction of its state-of-the-art Route Patrolling Vehicles (RPVs), branded as ‘Rajmarg Saathi.’ These upgraded RPVs aim to enhance emergency response, reduce traffic disruptions, and ensure efficient road maintenance with cutting-edge technology and thoughtful design.

The new RPVs mark a significant leap from their predecessors. One of the standout features is the inclusion of closed cabinets in the rear, replacing the earlier open-space design. This upgrade enables operators to store emergency equipment in an organized manner, allowing for quicker and more efficient responses during critical situations. Dedicated shelves within the cabinet ensure easy access to essential tools, reducing delays that previously hampered prompt action.

Adding a layer of technological sophistication, the RPVs now come equipped with AI-enabled dashboard cameras capable of video analytics. These cameras can identify road cracks, potholes, pedestrians, vehicles, and even missing or damaged road signs. The captured data will be seamlessly integrated into the NHAI One application, ensuring timely repairs and maintenance. By conducting weekly data reviews, the NHAI aims to uphold the highest standards of road infrastructure across the country.

To ensure their operational efficiency, each RPV will be replaced either after clocking 300,000 kilometers or completing three years of service. These vehicles are also receiving a visual overhaul with distinctive branding and enhanced visibility features, signaling their role as critical components of the Highway Patrol Service.

Patrol personnel will also don redesigned uniforms in a striking blue with reflective jackets and authority logos, ensuring easy identification while emphasizing professionalism.

“NHAI’s ‘Rajmarg Saathi’ initiative underscores our commitment to elevating road safety standards and creating a hassle-free travel experience for all National Highway users,” said an NHAI spokesperson. “The integration of advanced technology and thoughtful design reflects our forward-looking approach to incident management.”

The upgraded RPVs are expected to play a vital role in streamlining traffic flow, reducing accidents, and enhancing the overall user experience on India’s expansive highway network. With ‘Rajmarg Saathi,’ NHAI is not just addressing present challenges but also setting a benchmark for the future of highway patrolling.
