Munich, Germany & Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai, India — The BMW Group has joined forces with Tata Technologies to launch BMW TechWorks India, a new joint venture aimed at revolutionizing automotive software and business IT solutions. The collaboration will strategically leverage India’s tech talent from three major hubs—Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai—to propel BMW’s global software and IT initiatives.

Starting with 100 employees, BMW TechWorks India plans to expand rapidly, aiming for a workforce in the four-digit range by the end of 2025. The venture, with equal stakes from both partners, will focus on developing software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and cutting-edge digital experiences, making India a central hub in BMW’s global innovation network.

At the core of this collaboration lies a commitment to “Engineer in India for the World.” The joint venture will capitalize on India’s engineering expertise to create software solutions for automated driving, digital infotainment, and other automotive digital services. Beyond automotive software, BMW TechWorks India will also enhance BMW’s global production and customer experience through innovative IT solutions, including AI applications that boost efficiency across the value chain.

Christoph Grote, Senior Vice President of Electronics and Software at BMW Group, emphasized the significance of this new venture: “BMW TechWorks India is integral to our global software development efforts. India’s tech talent will be pivotal in building our next-generation, software-defined vehicles, enhancing digital automotive experiences like automated driving and infotainment.”

Warren Harris, CEO and MD of Tata Technologies, echoed this sentiment: “This partnership underscores our capabilities in SDVs and highlights India’s growing importance in the automotive tech sector. Together with BMW, we aim to create future-ready solutions that push the boundaries of mobility.”

The venture offers young Indian professionals a unique opportunity to engage in groundbreaking technology development, reinforcing India’s status as a rising global hub for automotive innovation. BMW TechWorks India aims to attract the country’s top talent, providing them a platform to work on impactful, global mobility solutions.
